Calling all ninjas! Experience a shoe flexible enough to grab on to both trails and trees… with the greatest of ease! We’ve engineered the sock-like Moc3 to act like a second skin—that is, if your skin had durable, rubber non-skid bottoms. The Moc3’s Breathe-O-Prene® interior provides a moisture-wicking and odor-resistant fit that hugs your foot from all sides. A layer of our LITE perforated leather protects the outer shell, offering just the slightest barrier between your feet and the great unknown. Weighing only 5oz, these shoes can be easily pulled on and off, and they roll up nicely to stuff into a pack or slide under a belt. Although the Moc3 was designed with runners in mind, it also makes an excellent and comfortable everyday shoe. Grab a pair of these zero-drop trail running shoes today and unleash the full, primal power of your feet!

Moc3 for Trail Running:

The thin 2mm soles on the Moc3 lets you take most dirt, grass and moderate trails in stride. Tough-footed barefooters will love them on rocky, technical trails. Since this shoe provides a very high level of groundfeel, beginners who have not yet strengthened their feet for barefoot-style running are advised to transition to rough/rocky surfaces gradually to avoid injury.

The Moc3 is not water resistant and is not recommended for stream crossing, though it is very easy to slip off and carry when you run through water.

  • Exceptional flexibility and ground feel provided by the innovative patterned footbed
  • Lightweight, weighing less than 5oz!
  • Breathe-O-Prene>® liners wick moisture and keep dust and dirt away!
  • Genuine leather uppers, perforated for breathability
  • Zero-drop 2mm Vibram® soling
  • Can be worn with or without socks
  • Extremely odor resistant
  • Reflective strips for nighttime safety
  • Handcrafted in Oregon, USA

You can measure your feet or your child's feet at home using a book, a ruler and a wall. You can then see where the measurement fits on our unisex shoe size chart to find the recommended shoe size.

Care Tips for Full Grain (smooth) Leather Shoes

Includes Sublime, Nova, Dublin, Highline, Torino, Shiny, LITE, Plonge, Aged, and Vegetable-Tanned Leathers

WHEN THEY FIRST ARRIVE:

Softstar Shoes are made from eco-friendly leathers tanned in the USA. Leather is a natural product and some variation in texture and hide markings is to be expected. Because we use leather colored with non-toxic food grade dyes, there will likely be some initial color transfer to your socks or skin if your shoes become damp. This will decrease with use, but we don't recommend wearing your new Softstars with your favorite white socks the first time you take them for a spin.

If your shoes are a little snug at first in the toe box area, you can gently stretch them by stuffing the toe box with a dry cloth. Push the cloth tightly into the front of the shoe and let sit stuffed overnight to stretch. Do not use a damp cloth as the water can stain the leather or innersole of some leather types, rendering it non-returnable.

MAINTENANCE:

Most full grain leather we use is naturally water resistant, but our special vegetable-tanned leather (available only by custom selection on some of our design-your-own shoes) and Colorado leather are "naked" leathers and will stain from water alone. You can clean shoes as needed with water dampened cloth and let air dry, but please note if you do this on vegetable-tanned or Colorado leather then you will need to wet/stain the entire shoe to avoid water marks. Condition the leather as often as desired with any quality leather dressing, but be careful to keep it away from the edges of your rubber soles. Do not use mink oil on your shoes, as it can degrade the adhesion on bonded soles and cause the sole to separate from your shoe over time. We highly recommend Bee Natural Amore for general conditioning or Rain & Snow or Nikwax Full Grain Waterproofing on smooth leather for enhanced water resistance. The color on shiny metallic shoes will eventually patina with use into an antique wear look, which can be accelerated with repeated use to water and high wear (e.g. scuffing toes).

WASHING:

We do not recommend frequent washing of any leather product as it strips the leather of it's natural oils and tends to dry stiffer. For all of our leathers (except vegetable-tanned) you can clean by hand with a damp cloth, or if needed you can hand wash your leather shoes using a gentle shampoo and cool water. Let them air dry. Do not attempt to dry your shoes by exposing them to high heat, such as a clothes dryer, a hair dryer or by leaving them on a radiator or next to a fire. Doing so may damage leather or rubber soles.

We are often asked if our shoes can be washed in a washing machine. While not recommended as a normal course of action, when in dire straits the Elves have been known to toss a pair of shoes in the machine and generally have had good results. Just don't mix them with any other item because of color bleeding. Shoes with sheepskin can take 3-4 days to air dry if fully submerged in water, but you can speed up the drying by stuffing with old newspapers and replacing the paper twice a day.

Care Tips for Suede and Nubuck Shoes

WHEN THEY FIRST ARRIVE:

Softstar Shoes are made from eco-friendly, tanned in USA leathers. Leather is a natural product and some variation in texture and markings is to be expected. Because we use natural food grade dyes in our leather, there will likely be some initial color transference to your socks or skin if your shoes become damp. This will decrease with use, but please do not wear your new Soft Stars with your favorite white socks the first time you take them for a spin!

If your shoes are a little snug at first across the top of the toes, you can gently stretch them by stuffing the toe box with a slightly damp rag. Push the cloth tightly into the front of the shoe (don't worry, you won't hurt it). Let the stuffing sit in the shoes overnight to stretch the leather.

MAINTENANCE:

Use a suede brush to remove dirt. You can also choose to use a suede/nubuck leather care product to protect against stains and water absorption (we recommend Nikwax Nubuck & Suede Proof). While not necessary, it will help keep your shoes looking new over time. Do not use generic leather care products on suede, but only those specifically formulated for suede. Products for full grain or smooth leather will be too oily and may permanently darken and mat suede fibers. Please do not use mink oil on any Softstar shoes as it will mat the fibers of our natural leather and will break down the adhesive soling on styles that have bonded soles.

Over time, suede outsoles naturally develop a smoother surface with wear If you’d like to refresh the texture and add some extra grip back, a quick touch-up with a suede brush can easily restore the nap.

WASHING:

We do not recommend frequent washing of any leather product because it will strip the leather of it's natural oils and cause it to dry stiffer. When a suede brush is not enough, you can use a damp cloth or hand wash your suede shoes with a gentle shampoo and cool water, then let them air dry. Do not attempt to dry your shoes by exposing them to high heat, such as a clothes dryer, a hair dryer or by leaving them on a radiator or next to a fire. Doing so may damage leather or rubber soles.

We are often asked if our shoes can be washed in a washing machine. While not recommended as a normal course of action, when in dire straits the Elves have been known to toss a pair of shoes in the machine and generally have had good results—just don't mix them with any other item because of color bleeding. Be sure to give your wet shoes ample time to air dry. Shoes with sheepskin can take 3-4 days to air dry if fully submerged in water, but you can speed up the drying process by stuffing them with old newspapers and replacing the paper twice a day.

Care Tips for Sheepskin Boots

Softstar Phoenix boots are made from genuine, high quality sheepskin.

While genuine sheepskin is incredibly cozy and beautiful, it is also delicate and will stretch under strain. When wearing your Phoenix boots, use care to avoid stepping off the back or sides of your heels while you walk as doing so repeatedly can affect the shape of the boots and alter the way they fit. The best way to prevent this is by insuring you purchase the correct size. For adults, we recommend selecting a boot size that fits very snugly at first, as they will stretch over time. For children, growing room is important, so a little extra space is recommended. If possible, have your kids wear their boots the first few times on dryer days to give them time to form to their feet.

The boot uppers are made from eco-friendly leathers that are tanned in the USA. Our leather hides are natural products and some variation in texture and markings is to be expected. If you need to clean your boots, wash gently by hand with a damp cloth and let them air dry.

Condition the leather as often as desired with any quality leather care product, but take care not to get any oils on the edges of the rubber soles. Mink oil, specifically, will degrade the sole adhesion and can lead to separation of soling over time—we do not recommend the use of mink oil anywhere on our boots, as it can eventually seep down to the sole. For general conditioning we recommend Bee Natural Amore, For enhanced moisture protection we recommend Bee Natural Rain and Snow or Nikwax Full Grain Waterproofing. Be careful to use these products only on the smooth leather portion of the shoes and not on the suede cuffs (leather care products designed for the full grain leather uppers may permanently darken suede). It is not necessary to apply a suede protectant or waterproofing to the cuffs, but doing so may help keep that portion of the boot looking clean. If you do choose to add extra protection to the suede, be careful to use a product specifically made for suede leather.

Sheepskin boots can take 3-4 days to air dry if fully soaked with water. You can speed up the drying process by stuffing the boots with old newspapers and replacing the paper twice a day. If they become this wet, be very careful to avoid wearing them again until fully dry because the leather will be more susceptible to stretching and the fit may alter. Do not attempt to dry your shoes by exposing them to high heat, such as a clothes dryer, a hair dryer or by leaving them on a radiator or next to a fire. Doing so may damage leather or rubber soles.

Whether you need it for the trail, street, studio or workplace, we have the perfect RunAmoc for you!

Soling Material Comparison

RunAmoc Sole Comparison
5mm Lightning 2mm Street 6mm Megagrip Bullhide Leather
Summary 5mm Lightning Sole Multifunctional sole for a wide range of uses. 2mm Street Sole Minimal space between feet and ground. 6mm Megagrip Sole Unparalelled grip on steep, rocky and muddy trails. Bullhide Leather Sole Extremely flexible sole for most unrestricted foot movement.
Features

Ultra-flexible in all directions, plus longer durability over thinner soles. Tread pattern provides sufficient traction on most surfaces.

Our thinnest and lightest sole. Minimal space between feet and ground.

Includes deep lugs that have been tested and proven by ultrarunners for performance on difficult trails.

We add an additional 3.5mm midsole to shoes that use the Megagrip sole to provide an extra buffer from sharp rocks.

Our most flexible sole! 3–4mm thick (natural hides vary slightly). Pliable texture provides our highest level of groundfeel and most unrestricted foot movement.

All-natural leather material allows grounding conductivity.

Use

A versatile sole for most uses. Rubber compound provides natural "stickiness" on smooth surfaces while zig-zag tread helps grip onto unnatural surfaces in nature, such as gravel or rocky paths. Thin and flexible enough for optimal groundfeel, yet thick enough to keep feet protected.

Perfect for running on smooth surfaces or for trail runners who have strengthened their feet to tolerate groundfeel of rough surfaces.

Designed specifically to handle challenging terrain, Megagrip soles perform well in both wet and dry conditions and are a favorite among extreme trail runners.

Megagrip soles are heavier than our other soles due to their extra thickness and density.

A favorite for dancers and people who prefer to run or walk barefoot. Like the street sole, it is recommended to have feet strengthened for barefoot-style running before using this sole on rough or rocky terrain.

NOTE: this sole can become very slippery on smooth, wet surfaces.

Leather Material Comparison

Leather Material Comparison
  Smooth Full Grain

Includes Sublime, Aged, Shiny
and Vegetable-Tanned Leathers

LITE
Summary Smooth Full Grain LeatherSmooth and semi-glossy topside (leather labeled as "shiny" is extra glossy with metallic finish). Underside is suede. LITE Perforated LeatherSmooth, thin and light. Perforated for increased breathability.
Features

Pros: Naturally water resistant and easy to clean. Keeps feet warm and protected in cold, wet weather.

NOTE: Vegetable-Tanned leather is a "naked" material and may stain easily, even with plain water or leathercare.

Cons: May cause feet to feel warm in hot climates, depending on your tolerance for heat/cold—but still more breathable than most rubber or faux-leather shoes.

Pros: Lightweight, keeps feet cool and ventilated. A favorite for running in warm weather. Easy to clean.

Cons: Not water resistant... it has holes!

Use

Smooth leather provides the most protection from the elements. A popular choice for protecting feet from cold or wet weather. Also gives a classy look for dressy or formal occasions.

While naturally somewhat water resistant, smooth leather can be made more waterproof with full grain leather care (found in our Accessories menu).

Great for athletes wanting to keep feet ventilated and cool. This naturally lightweight material minimizes shoe weight to maximize performance. Although it is not water resistant, the thin, airy material dries quickly and is easy to clean.

    The best barefoot experience

    Rating

I'm coming off 8 years as a loyal Vibram five finger wearer - certainly they changed my life for the better and improved my knee and gait. However, their new stock is different, I ordered a pair and my big toe was squished. Ordered a size up and same thing, but the rest of my foot was flopping around. So, lo and behold I I found myself here at Soft Star ~ wow. These feel AMAZING. My toes have space, they stay on my feet, my walks around the neighbourhood, stair runs and forest walks have been soft and comfy. I think mine are a bit big for me, but I've been wearing wool socks and walking in PNW winter has been a warm fluffy dream! Thank you for designing such a brilliant shoe! Take care, N

    Run a moc

    Rating

Softstar is one of the highest quality barefoot shoes out there. Heck, they are one of the highest quality shoes, period. Totally customizable, fit exactly to their size charts, fast service, Cant ask for much more from a company. And the shoes....are like driving gloves for your feet. I have multiple different styles of softstar, including the run a moc. The run a moc feels like what you would expect a "ninja shoe" to feel like. Like it's your foot, just protective. And the roo moc ?? Total luxury.... Always look forward to my next pair of softstar shoes, just can't go wrong.
  3. in love

    Rating

These are the absolute best shoes I have ever worn. They allow your foot to bend and move and to feel the terrain beneath your feet. The proprioceptive feedback is satisfying. The leather has molded perfectly to my foot, and there are no points of contact that are aggravating or uncomfortable. I gladly wear them everywhere.

    Awesome… except

    Rating

I do love these shoes, everything about them save one single issue. Why no wide option? I would probably have 4 pairs of these if they came in a wide width. As it stands, I won’t buy another pair unless they make them in wide. I have stretched the width on my pair. I used a combination of a shoe stretcher and leather stretching compound. I was careful not to overdo it, and the results are that they almost allow for toe splay. At least they fit the shape of my forefoot now, but it’s still insufficient compared to my other softstars that come in wide widths.

Second pair I've purchased. The bottom sole came unglued and pulled away from the shoe.

    Response from store

Note from the Elves: Dear Ms. Vicki - thank you for your review. We see you purchased your first pair in 2018 and your second pair 2.5 years ago. Thank you for your repeat purchases! Sometimes the adhesives will start to come loose on the edges over time, depending on amount of use, and sometimes heat can be a factor as well, if you live in extremely hot climates. The good news is that eventual adhesive fails can be easily repaired a local cobbler store, or reach out to our customer service team for a list of DIY adhesives you can use to get some additional life out of them.
  6. Luv em!

    Rating

Great shoes so comfy easy to slip on and out of. I wear them all over the house and run in them outside as well very happy with purchase. I do wish they were slightly more breathable for the Texas heat in the summer so I could wear them all year long outside. I usually switch back to my sandals when the heat comes although I still wear them in the house and when weightlifting. Great for grounding yourself during deadlifts and squats.
  7. Why the ugly label

    Rating

I’ve been wearing Softstar shoes since forever and these are of the high quality I’ve come to expect of the brand. But why have you guys decided to attach a 1.5 cm neon green Softstar label on the outside of my shoe? It is stitched to the seam so that unpicking the stitches resulted in the seam falling apart. But I have no wish to walk around in purple shoes with a neon green strip on the heels. Were the elves drunk?

    Response from store

Note from the Elves: Thanks for the input Pauline! In the future, you can request the green branding tags be excluded in exchange for non-returnable purchase. Meanwhile we will forward your input to our design elves that you would like us to revisit our branding tags.

    Super comfortable for daily wear

    Rating

These beautiful and comfy shoes have become my go-to footwear for walking around NYC. They felt a little narrow at first, but after a day or two have slightly stretched to a perfect fit. I am looking forward to testing them in a more rugged terrain!

    Moc3 RunAmoc

    Rating

This is my second pair of Moc3 RunAmocs, the first pair have lasted 2 years. I still can jog in them. The road I run on are very ruff, and they have lasted for over 1000 miles.
  11. Not what I was expecting- Not wide foot friendly

    Rating

I don't know how I missed the bottom of the shoe, maybe because I don't think to look if it's all covered.. the bottom of these shoes are really effed up. It's like they took someone's footprint and then decided - YEP EVERYONE'S FOOT is this Shape! There is a crack in the surface of the sole so when I walk my third toe to goes into that area. Then there's a pre-set arch and guess what I have high arches so when I step my foot goes over the end of the bottom. I'm pretty sure these shoes are causing my knees to hurt from how it makes my foot turn in because the awful design on the bottom. Would not recommend and I was so excited to get these! I thought they were going to be perfect for working in a gym, but I can't believe the bottom of this shoe.

    Response from store

Note from the Elves: Sorry to hear this style is not working for you! Please check out our Happy Foot Guarantee to see if we can get you into a style you like better. The sole on the bottom of the Moc 3 is designed to provide maximum flex, and is not representative of anyone's footprint :-).

    Durability not what expected

    Rating

I was recommended these by a pair of grizzled marathon runners who'd taken their pairs of mocs to hell and back, all terrain, all seasons! Me, I've just been getting into barefoot walking and running, so I've had to take it a lot slower and have only been doing easier hikes and easy jogging (paved / grassy walkways) I'd been led to expect by reviews and those friends of mine that I could expect a few years out of these, and for $150 I figured maybe that expectation would be met. Well, the adhesive holding my left shoe together completely failed on the upper half of the sole, and the stitching on the right has a gaping hole leading directly under the shoe that's been letting loose grit and uncomfortable things into the shoe itself, which my feet really aren't prepared for yet! I don't know if this is a fluke with my pair or what, but I am pretty bummed because I really loved these and was raving about them to anyone unfortunate enough to point out what my feet were wearing.

    Response from store

Note from the Elves: Hi Ced - I see you reached out to CS and they were able to assist you. Thank you for the feedback, it helps us design better shoes. You are correct that for some people they last forever, and others they wear out too quickly. We all have such unique feet, activity and use cases! I hope they resolution from our team will help you find another Softstar style which works better for you.

Running in Blue Moc3s Size 11

    Rating

The Moc3 in Blue is a beautiful running shoe inside and out. They are so comfortable and lightweight and just wide enough to wear with my Correct Toes. No way to match the ground feel unless completely barefoot. I cannot imagine anything better for natural running in shoes.

Narrow toe box and hurts my toes even after stretching a lot

    Rating

I have spent about a week total of stretch time, in which I place a glue stick covered in cloth in targeted areas to make room for my pinky toe and big toe, which otherwise press painfully against the sides while I'm wearing CorrectToes . However, they are *still* painfully too narrow for my toes! I feel disappointed and discouraged. Please make a Primal version... Or at least a Wide width version. Otherwise I am about to give up on these shoes-- which sucks because I love how much I can feel the ground in them and they fit my heal and mid foot perfectly. I just can't live with foot pain-- that's why I buy softstar in the first place!

Note from the Elves: Thank you Indigo for your feedback! We often get requests to have this style in wide versions, but unfortunately do not have wides now. We do not recommend using correct toes in regular width shoes. Hope you feel good in them otherwise (without Correct Toes).

These are my third pair of this style. I have the blue and white and then ordered these. I am 65 and no runner but I am very into barefoot shoes due to the fact I have balance issues. Softstar shoes have helped improve my balance in so many ways. I also have foot problems, two surgeries on one foot a surgery on the other so my feet are sensitive as well. This style gives me that feedback I need to help me with my balance and toe spreading while at the same time keeping my feet snug when it’s colder because I can wear socks with them, or keeping my feet cooler when I don’t. I love them. So comfy and kind to my tender feet! ????

I needed to buy a size or 2 up from the 10U that I ordered, even though I carefully followed the sizing chart and instructions. Cannot wear them with socks.. too tight. A friend sent me to Softstar for the wide "toe box" but this moc does not come in wide.. Otherwise a good piece of footwear.

Well...I just received these today...the pink pair. I put them on...I do not want to take them off. They are the most comfortable, the most flexible, the most cozy shoes ever...loads of space for toes and they wrap about the foot beautifully...they feel like socks but with thin rubber underneath. Thank you, Softstar, from a very pleased Canadian who lives just outside of Toronto.

I'm a runner, yoga instructor, and full time farmer in Northern Ca. My life is active! These shoes are all I've worn since I found the Softstar website. I normally like barefoot/minimalist shoes to begin with and I don't have a problem with my feet experiencing the ground...but these things are a level up from what I've been wearing. Honestly I put on a pair of warm socks, slip them on and go about life! I feel agile and very human in them! And I run in them (dirt road), which requires some awareness, but it should anyhow so allll good. I love them. And they look cool! I haven't used them in rain or snow and won't because I don't think they're designed for harsh weather, but otherwise Im very satisfied. Sizing wise- Im a ladies 10 with a narrow, slender foot. I did best with the universal size 8.

I own several pairs of Softstarshoes and love them all. This one is definitely my favorite for everyday use and “everywhere go”, whether one stays home, go on a trail walk, go shopping or even go to work. Comfortable, great quality, easy to put on, barefoot or socks, look good. I have used them for few months and so far they still look like new and have not had issues with unglued sole. Will probably invest in a second pair soon.

    Great shoes with consistent issues

    Rating

These are great shoes and very comfortable. They feel like a sock and I get a lot of compliments on them. I could wear them every day. I own two pairs of this style and both had the same issues; 1) the insole comes un-glued 2) the outer sole of the shoe comes un-glued in sections They sent me an alternate insole that stayed in place on my second pair. On my first pair I had a cobbler re-glue the insole. With both pairs I used a super glue to repair the outer sole. It’s really a simple fix, they could use better glue, when I had them re-glued everything stayed in place. I buy a lot of softstar shoes and I am a big fan but this shoe has had quality issues for me.

i wrote a review in october 2020 about the quality of the run amoc. The inner sole went after 25 horus of running and the outer sole started to loose when they got soaking wet. I took a thin sole from another pair of shoes and used them in my run amocs.. Worked very well. the outer sole I have glued a few times. I run a lot of miles in the forest and after a whille I have a few holes in the moccasin here and there. But they are holding toghether. I have done more than 230 horus of running in them and now they are more or less done. So I have to say, with a small repair here and ther they are worth every dollar. The quality is GOOD. My son also run in a pair of run amocs. Mainly street and gravel roads and alway dry...his run amocs are holding up extremely well. well...I have just ordered a pair of pink ones..thank you for the colour. Keep on running/Robert

Wide foot, high arch, high instep, hammer toe and yes bunions….who’d have thought I’d actually find a truly comfortable shoe?!?!? THANKS! I must say that I ordered lite brown and it’s very very dark brown…. But it’s ok.

This shoe is incredibly lightweight; this really allows you to focus on building foot strength since it's remarkably close to walking barefoot. It might not have the protection from the elements that you would need on a muddy day, but this is not an all-weather shoe; treat it with love and it will last you a good while. Overall, I love this shoe and choose it again and again for my walks outside. I have only had it for a couple of months, so I will update my review after I have used it for a longer time.
  39. Awesome shoes with just 1 flaw.

    Rating

THese shoes are as minimal as minimal can get which is just what I was looking for. Barefoot with a little protection. The leather outer is long lasting and durable. The elastic band that wraps around the foot can be a little stronger, it tends to loosen up after you rack up some running miles. The soles are long lasting but the glue that holds them to the leather comes undone every couple months. Since they do not cover all of the leather that may contact the ground, i've had numerous holes form after 2-3 months of use which are a result of the glue loosening up the sole and allowing the leather casing which the sole was glued to to come into contact with the ground. I believe this is a simple fix in which the sole needs to be have a bit more surface area on key contact points for all running styles ( i.e heel-toe, valgus-varus) Other than that one issue these are my personal favorite shoes, I've used over 5 pairs already in the past 3 years or so. ALOT of running.

I have a few questions regarding the quality though..I am running mostly trails.. after 8-10 hours the first holes on the shoe itself starts to come. After 25 hours of running the innersole comes loose. And when they get soaking wet the sole goes..its like the glue doesnt like rain. I took it to my shoemaker and he sewed the sole to the shoe and it held for quite a while. Maybe that would be something you could consider.. Colour suggestion: pink. Keep on running../Robert
  42. Really, a great shoe

    Rating

I tend to use these for running (pea gravel/dirt trail) and forest walking. It might take a little time for me to get totally used to the hardness of the ground that can be felt through them. But when you go through, say, an evergreens stand where the soil is light and springy, they are just a dream. It’s soft and soothing, like a massage working its way up your legs as you walk. An interesting note about traction: it is true that on wet, smooth surfaces, these become extremely slippery. I abandoned hopes of using them as restaurant shoes for this reason. Take it to the other extreme - like a sloping surface of rocks/dirt - and they give you better traction than shoes with thicker soles (barefoot or not). You can put your feet between the rocks and grip the contoured ground rather than bring everything down the hill with you on a conveyor belt of moving stones. I love them. They were a superb investment. Not so great for tree climbing (at least, not for trunk scaling where you need serious grip against a smooth upright beam; barefoot still works better). And I’m wary of spending serious time with them in the damp or wet. But they’re exemplary within their niche, a really unique, well made, and worthwhile product.
  43. Pretty Good

    Rating

I've been wearing these most of the time for about a month. Very flexible and great ground feel. I've done some trail runs in them and have already put a tiny tear in the front of one of the shoes, right where the rubber meets the leather. Most trail-running shoes have a reinforced area there, but these shoes are minimalist, so they lack this feature. I fixed the tear with a smear of Shoe Goo, which I expect to last for quite a while. I'm not a big fan of wearing these shoes on pavement for long periods, so I sometimes add a cheap running shoe insert to give a touch of cushioning. All in all, it is a remarkable shoe that will force your feet to be more active. I recommend them (particularly if you can get them on sale).

I ordered the black version. These shoes are very low profile. I love how they feel on my feet. I normally wear black skinny jeans to work and these actually go quite well with my jeans. I also bought a pair of primal runamoc's but they aren't very attractive and draw a lot of negative attention at work. The moc3 does have painful seams. I was hoping to go sock less as I've done my entire life but I don't think I can handle the seams on my bare skin. If these last at least a year I will continue to replace them with the same thing year after year because they are the best minimal shoe I've worn.
  45. Mind blowing comfort and use

    Rating

I’m sure I cannot adequately express in words the way my Moc3s feel, and the way I feel in them. First of all, they’re more comfortable than anything over ever put on my feet. No sock, no slipper, and definitely no shoes, have ever slipped on and felt like... Love for feet. The best part is that they’re not a delicate indoor shoe like one would expect for such comfort. I enjoy running around, as agile as I can, with shoes that feel like my feet are simply toughened up. And in my favorite color they are a delight every time I look upon them. The Moc3 is a GENIUS creation! I look forward to buying a pair of these for every loved one I have.

the only shoe I can hike in

    Rating

I am so thankful to have found Softstar shoes and, in particular, this model of shoe. I have had lateral foot pain for many years - and it seemed to progress each year, making hiking nearly impossible. It's hard to hike when you're experiencing excruciating pain 15 minutes after stepping into your boots. I finally tried barefoot hiking, and it was amazing. No pain! Except - you know - for sharp gravel. So I tried several brands of "barefoot" shoes - only to experience the same foot pain, just not quite as quickly as I did in heavy boots. I finally found Softstar shoes, and wear this model for hiking! It's wonderful. No pain. I can still feel the ground, but this protects my feet from pointy rocks and glass. I ordered a size too large initially, but the return process was quick and easy and the smaller size fits great.

My family and I stopped into the warehouse on the way back from the coast. I tried on these and four other styles they had in my size. Every shoe fit differently in length and width. I liked the look of these most so ordered a pair while at the store. When I received my shoes in the mail the Vibram soles were too long. I teach yoga and meditation full time, and wore them right away on a damp five-block walk to work. Not returnable after having been a little wet, I decided to just keep them. Customers should be prepared to self-advocate to get the correct size. The glue application was very visible and messy at the seams. They suit my professional needs and I would buy again.

Could you do a wide version of these, as you do with some of your other shoes? I grew up in the south running barefoot most of the time, exploring the woods and places. Shoes were just for school and frigid weather. In fact, for a couple of years living in Alabama, the state Surgeon General declared it was healthy for kids to go barefoot to school. So these sophisticated moccasins tickled my fancy. Beautifully crafted of glove-soft leather, these are the next best thing to being barefoot again. They aren’t practical for wet weather, but I am wearing them most of the time when the weather is nice. Dreading the coming winter when I shall have to switch to sturdy boots....

I labeled this as my jogging shoes as it does not have much room space for my toes. But man sometimes, this shoes just tempts me like the devil. My loved ones have ridiculed this shoes that it look ugly and "sleeping shoes". But honestly I actually loved the design and find it nice looking. Moving aside, my main review about this shoes its just too comfortable. It wraps nicely around the foot. Other than using it as my main jogging shoes, I wear it as my sandals when going out to nearby stores, going out to bbqs, events, going out friends and even to my workplace, basically everywhere I go XD
  65. I've been wearing these shoes for nearly 10 years

    Rating

I've been wearing these shoes for nearly 10 years, and I love them, I've but over a half-dozen repairs. But the quality decline over that time has been noticeable. The glue for the soles wears off much faster, I can keep them together with Shoe Goo, but I have to use it much more frequently, which is a pain. Also, holes in the soles and front fabric appear sooner, although I haven't had as much of a problem with that as some here have. Its very disappointing to see a company like this using cheaper materials as part of an obvious planned obsolescence strategy, they're supposed to be better than that. Cold can be an issue below 40 degrees F, but you can counter that with socks and its not surprising considering how thin they are. And they've always performed poorly in rain, when they get wet all bets are off, they become like wearing a heavy, wet sock (yuck!). Personally I'd pay the extra if they were able to add some kind of reasonable waterproofing, it would help a lot with my winter running.
  66. I love these shoes!

    Rating

I love these shoes! I use them for running and occasionally "about town" and have found them comfy for both. (and they have lots of ground feel too!) My feet are 10 inches long, so I am on the border between 8U and 9U. I initially ordered the 9U but found them too long, so easily exchanged them for 8U (Thanks elves!) The 8U is the perfect length for me in this shoe (Though I am a 9U in the Rogues). As for width of toe box, I had to wear them about a week to let the toe box get that little bit of stretch needed for me to feel like my toes can spread out. FYI: When getting used to running in them the inner sole needed a bit of wear before I could run in them without socks (or I would get blisters on the bottoms of my big toes) Part of this is my running form being sloppy and not having much foot callus at the moment, but I also think the inner sole fabric just needed to wear into my feet a bit before it was smooth enough in the right spots for my delicate soles.
  67. Great but not for the cost

    Rating

Loved these shoes while they lasted. I have tried at least a half dozen different barefoot running shoe brands over the years and my current shoe collection is almost all barefoot style. These were by far the closest to barefoot I have owned. The only reason I would not buy them again is I didn't feel they lasted as long as they should have. First issue was the insole started to come un-glued and roll up giving me blisters. This was easily fixed with some glue. Then a holes developed in the toes and outter edge. Also the sole is starting peel. I have owned these for less then a year with only moderate pavement running and in an area where they were not used during the winter due to snow (other shoes used for that). This is not as long as I would expect a shoe at this price to last. There are longer lasting and more affordable options out there. That are only slightly less barefoot. Such as the many running sandal options out there.
  68. Super comfort and very very minimalist

    Rating

I got the Moc3 since 6 yars and this is very very minimalist. I got other famous and less famous minimalist shoes and they are by far the closer I get from the ground. On top of that, they are very comfortable. I was skeptic with the breath-O-prene but that is a very nice feeling on the foot, no stitching in the wrong place. The only drawback is that it's not so great when wet a your foot will be wet. If it's not a problem for you, these are great shoes. When I bought those, there was only black. Great to have those new colors!
  69. Fabulous feel

    Rating

I've had my RunAmoc3s for a year now, and I love them! Years ago, I tried another model of SoftStars, which I sent back because the soles were just too thick. These are finally thin enough to be comfortable, with excellent ground feel. When I'm not wearing barebottom sandals, these are my choice. They slip on quickly and easily, and enhance balance and control.
  70. Great minimalist option

    Rating

I have ran, walked, hiked, worn as a house slipper, and have done Cross Fit workouts with this shoe. I like that it has a no-slip inner sole, has just enough protection of the outsole to protect against sharp rocks, is ventilated enough not to make my feet sweat when wearing without socks, is zero-drop from heel to toe, and sits really low to the ground. It is super flexible, easy to clean, and easy to wear. Great shoe! Wished it came in brown is my only complaint.
  71. Excellent minimalist running shoes

    Rating

I just placed an order for a second pair of these shoes, to replace the first pair I bought. Since I was logged in, I checked my orders, and discovered that I bought my first pair in November 2012. My lasted seven years of running 2.5-3 miles 4-5 days a week October though April (well, anytime it was below 60F). I've run in weather as cold as 15F, wearing ski socks and these shoes. They are substantially warmer than shoes with any sort of mesh uppers. Ultimately, my tendency to drag my right toe a bit wore through the leather. I was able to patch them a couple of times with Shoe Goo, but they finally gave up the ghost. Still, I'm very happy with their durability. I also own Merrell and Vivo barefoot shoes, but I prefer the fit of the RunAmocs. At first the unconstructed fit is disconcerting--the shoe seems to float around your foot. Just run through that feeling, and within a mile the shoes will feel completely natural. It's the closest thing possible to running barefoot in winter. If you're coming from regular running shoes, don't underestimate the transition time required to strengthen your feet and adapt to a barefoot running style. It might take several weeks. Wear the shoes at home or around town to get used to them if necessary. The only downside of these shoes is rain. I got caught in a spring thunderstorm, and they filled up with water. I'm sure soaking doesn't do the leather any favors. For rainy day runs, I use my Vivos, and save my RunAmocs for dry, cold days. They rock.

These shoes are so great! When you receive them they look so strange because they are completely flat, but after you wear them for a while they shape to your foot, so that when you take them off they are "shaped" now and stand up :). I think they look like fairy or elf shoes, they go with everything, and I love the ground feel. I started wearing minimalist shoes (from other companies, Lem's, Luna, Shamma, etc) due to an ankle injury, and then due to a really bad knee injury last year, had to go even thinner, and I was so happy to find Softstar. Now I wear the Rogue and Portlander (wish they were still made) for hiking with sharp rocks, and the Moc3's for everything else including light hiking :) You should try them! They are great!!!
  74. I want to LOVE this shoes, but...

    Rating

I've been wearing minimalist shoes for both running and everyday walking around for 5+ years. I got a pair Moc3s a few months ago. Pros: - they're very comfortable: both with and without socks, they hug the feet in a really nice way and I love having them on. Cons: - When running, my toes blister quite spectacularly (and this never happened with another minimalist shoe): I'm on the lower end of my size, so they're a tad loose. Socks or no socks, blisters show up after anything over 3 or 4 miles. I can't really feel much rubbing or anything - it's an odd (and not very pleasant) experience - I don't think they'll last very long. I'm used to easily putting in 1,000 miles before retiring a pair of minimalist running shoes, so I was pretty disappointed to see the glue in the soles start to come off after just a couple of months of not very intense use (<100 mi), as well as a small tear in the front. I now limit usage to mostly going to the shops, which is really a pity for a shoe I had such great hopes (and paid good money) for. I also own 2 pairs of Dashes that are awesome, so I'll keep coming back to Softstar, but maybe not for these ones. Giving 2 stars because running shoes I can't wear for running aren't very good running shoes. Would probably give it 4 or 5 stars as casual shoes.

She has had a stroke and has trouble lifting her foot. Shoes are heavy and she has had issues with her feet on the back of the heel with the shoes she does wear rubbing blisters. I put these on her and she is able to lift her foot and move better. So I bought her a pair. We were at her doctor's office yesterday and the nurse was enamored. So I direct her to your website. Do you have a position open for Outside Sales? ;)
  76. Great for casual use or really anything else you need

    Rating

I own 2 pairs of the Moc3, an orange pair I use for running/yard work/anything I don't care if they get dirty, and a black pair I use for work and other events. I used to wear Vivobarefoot shoes to the office because they looked mostly like normal shoes. Unfortunately they tended to fall apart fairly quickly. With the Moc3, once you get used to the fact that you wear different looking shoes at the office or work events (I even wear them to formal events), then they are fantastic. I get comments pretty commonly on how cool they are and that they must be comfortable. These shoes are nice and snug, like a pair of wool socks, and are incredibly comfortable. I was concerned at first that they are too tight, but they should be snug and I wouldn't want them any looser. The only issue I have is in the rain; as soon as you step in a small puddle your socks are getting wet. But it is usually not a problem to avoid the puddles, or for some events where it will rain I bring a change of socks.
  77. Verified Buyer

    Overall, best minimalist running shoe

    Rating

I have been running in Moc3s for several years now, after trying many other minimalist shoes. These are by far the best - no need to stuff your toes like sausages, great balance of protection and ground feel, balance of toe/foot freedom of movement with secure fit around foot. The only reason I did not give 5 stars: once the outer layer of sold is breached, the size of hole and penetration into the inner layer is rapid. Some context: I run 30 min 3 x/week on pavement and trail. Shoes last between 6-11 months (trigger for new pair is always breach of outer sole layer).

  80. Busted in a month

    Rating

The toe on one shoe ripped in a matter of weeks of around town walking on sidewalks. The second shoe soon followed, and the repair section on this website basically says you are totally on your own with these. I'm seriously disappointed given the price. If they'd held up at all they would be awesome, but since they were so flimsy I can't possibly recommend them.
  81. Great choice for an easy wearing minimalist shoe

    Rating

These are the best. I've owned Vivo, fivefingers, even a kickstarter sock/shoe. These are easy to wear, sturdy, and they stay on my feet perfectly. I love how easy it is to slip into and out of them and they feel terrific when I walk and work in the city. Great customer service too. I will definitely buy other colors. Keep up the great work Elves!
  82. Best minimalist shoe I've found. Better company that makes them.

    Rating

Fine, the shoes are awesome. Fine, whatevs. Couldn't be better, like everyone says, blah, blah, blah. All for-realsies 100% true, no kidding around. You want to barefoot run, buy these things. That's it. AND: the company that backs them is a true gem. Whenever I've had a problem with them - had four pairs now, spanning 9 years - these folks have replaced them with no questions asked. Well, actually, questions asked: they asked about EXACTLY how the product failed, asked for them to be sent back (I presume for analysis) and then sent a letter with the new pair, free shipping. BAM. What kind of company DOES that anymore? The hell with anyone else. These folks care. Priceless. Customer for life here.
  83. Great shoe

    Rating

I bought these for my 10 year old son. He loved the color and was quite happy with the easy on and off like a sock. My son has wide feet, measuring even in soft star shoes as a wide. Since this shoe did not come in a wide I was worried about the inner seems bugging him. I ordered his correct size and it was too small. I ordered one size up and it fit him perfect! I would say his favorite go to shoe when I make him wear shoes. I ordered one size up for my husband however who has EEE feet...and it was to long for him. I wish soft star would make wides in this shoe. Maybe one day....
  84. 2nd Pair, Awesome Color, a Full Two Sizes Smaller than Recommended and Fit is Perfect

    Rating

These are my second pair of RunAmocs. I purchased the first pair one size smaller than recommended and they were looser than I like for vigorous running. These are perfect. They molded to my feet in just a week and now feel like a second skin. They are also wearing less than the first pair, as I am not dragging them at the heel. Lime is an excellent color and has saved my feet from others heels several times.
  85. So comfy!

    Rating

I have had my Moc3's for about a month now and absolutely love them. So, so comfy. I bought them to replace my Ramblers which finally started coming apart after 4 years of wear. I found that occasionally the elastic on my Ramblers would dig in to my feet and be uncomfortable so wanted to try something different. The Moc3's are so much more comfortable and much more minimalistic in feel. I am hoping that they will stand up to wear as well as my other Soft Stars have.
  86. Excellent

Absolutely the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn !
  87. Best of the best

    Rating

Soft Star Shoes was the end of my search for ideal minimalist footwear, and the Moc3 is my favorite of their shoes that I've worn. I prefer their ground feel and freedom even to that of my VFFs, and I enjoy wearing them casually, for running, hiking, and even trail running. I cannot recommend these enough!
  88. I've been wearing them almost daily since they arrived a month ago

    Rating

I really love these shoes. They are incredibly comfortable and after a month of near daily wear they still smell like they did when delivered, which is not true of all my my minimalist shoes. I bought a size smaller than recommended by the printable sizing template, thinking I'd want them tighter for running. While I do gentle runs in them, I'd want yet a size smaller if I were to run with any speed. I'll buy another pair for that.
  89. Pretty happy feet

    Rating

I'm not a runner, but I loved the look of these shoes, and I wanted something that could be comfortable enough to wear while traveling (feel like slippers, outdoor sole). Because I have grumpy feet, I added a bit of cost, and requested the Elves to put the Ballerine footbed into these for some extra cushion. They're wide enough in the regular width, and I'm pretty happy overall. The only bummer is that when I ordered, the standard colors were black and tangerine. Just a few weeks after I custom built them in lime at extra cost, lime is now the standard color. That won't stop me from ordering from SoftStar in the future.
  90. Great shoe, but...

    Rating

Love the Moc 3 RunAmocs!! So easy that I wore them for everything except rain or beach/riverfront. The ONLY problems I had were: a) I have a narrow foot, so the shoe really flops around on me. Not a total deal breaker, but since they'really a great athletic shoe I wish Soft Star would make better accommodations that way. b) The toe wore through really fast. Had to use Shoo Goo within weeks of purchase to repair the toe--the seam in the toe and the rubber that had started to peel. I have pretty good running form, so it could have been the looseness, but that really was a disappointment. If it were a little longer lasting and had an option for snugger fit, I would buy a pair every year!!
  91. Mostly great

    Rating

The Moc3s are beautifully minimal. I'm a massage therapist and I work in these when it's too cold to be barefoot on my office floor. Been wearing them for about a month. Two things I wish I could change: I would definitely like more width for my baby toes. I can't spread my toes in these shoes. They make me crave VFFs. Only the smallest toes are pinched, the rest are fine. Although these shoes seem to be the perfect length, I would be curious to try a size larger. (I ordered one size smaller upon the recommendation of an Elf - she said this style runs bigger than the elk skin moccasins I returned, which were slightly long on me.) Secondly, the seams inside are very obvious, especially under the 5th toes. I never wear these shoes without socks because of the seams inside. I always wear toe socks, and very thin injinjis work best for 5th toe space, yet still reducing the feel of the seams. Thicker socks have helped to stretch the shoes and they make the seams less noticeable, but with less toe room... I don't think I could run in them for these reasons, but they're working ok for professional purposes. Overall, the Moc3s are a great design - simple, functional, well-made, and they look good. However, if I don't get enough stretch for my 5th toes over the next couple months, I won't continue to wear them.
  92. Long lasting, high quality, excellent!

    Rating

I bought my Moc3s back in summer/fall of 2011 and I'm just now considering replacing them. I only ran in them a bit, but I've worn them walking for all that time, and they're just now fraying where the vibram meets the leather around the edges of the sole. I'm so happy with them. They by far the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned, and I love that you can slip them on and off so easily, without laces, etc.
  93. Great comfort

I was looking for a pair of sleek moccasins and I found them. I can't wait to order my next pair. Good job everyone.
  94. falling love to run in Moc3

    Rating

I need to say that Moc3 has a great impact on why I enjoy a running so much. Perfect fit without any discomfort. After puting Moc3 on you forgot them and you feel like barefoot. Great grip, great ground feel and very comfortable. Just one detail, they are not waterproof - but it is appropriate tax for breathability. I use more barefoot shoes from different brands but this is my favorite and you will love them.
  95. Love them!

    Rating

These are fantastic. They fit me perfectly, are spacious for my feet and are so lightweight. I did add a plain foam insole because I need a bit of padding when running on pavement but great barefoot feel. Would recommend.
  96. Best Barefoot Running Shoes Yet

    Rating

I've been running in minimalist shoes for 7 years, and have tried VFF, Merrell, and Vivo. These are the best feel hands down. I use them for trail running, and while not as heavily padded as others for rocks and roots, I feel it is enough once my feet warm up. I was cautious that they were too tight when I ordered them (as my toes were about snug up to the end) but that fit in part makes them so comfortable. I'm convinced the sock-like, snug fit brings the back of the shoe up and gets rid of the heel slap / slightly loose feeling normal in every other pair of shoes, even VFFs.
  97. Great Moccasins

    Rating

I really like my RunAMocs. They're high quality, and the Vibram sole is enough to feel secure while feeling much of what I'm walking on. I love using these on grass or on a forest trail. It's a little hard on pavement and sidewalks, so I will have to build up to wearing them all day. I'd also say they are more for a casual day outside or movement work on the grass or trail running, rather than looking fashionable at work. I use a different barefoot shoe for going out on the town, but my RunAmocs are awesome for activities and I can tell they will last a long time. I usually wear a 10.5 so I bought a 10 in the RunAmoc and I am very happy with the sizing.
  98. Love them.

    Rating

I am absolutely in love with these shoes. They are very comfortable. The wide toe box is just amazing and doesn't restrict your toes. I don't mind the thin soles, but for example, I think my mom will prefer a more padding for her feet. They can be worn with out socks because of the inner lining. The only thing is that they do get wet, which is honestly not a big issue, just let them dry for a day and you can wear them after. I can live in these shoes. and I am planning on adding more colours to my collection. First in mind is white. right now I own the black one.
  99. Uncomfortable shoes

    Rating

I had ordered these shoes based on the good reviews, and unfortunately I do not like these shoes at all. 1. The soles seem fragile, and I would be afraid to use them on a trail. 2. They are too loose without socks 3. They feel uncomfortable at the seams. My background: I am used to wearing sock shoes, and it is probably hard to compare any shoes to the comfort, and bare foot feeling of sock shoes.
  100. wonderful but with limitations.

    Rating

This shoe is incredibly stylish and comfortable. I originally bought it for running and I bought the Rogue for work. But after a few months, I switched them around. Now I wear the moc3 strictly for work. I no longer run with the moc3 anymore. The moc3 has some limitations as a running shoe. 1. my foot moves a bit inside the shoe when I am running fast. If i go without socks, then my feet will start sweating enough after 2-3 miles that my foot starts slipping around inside of them, affecting how my foot plants and lifts off from the ground. If I wear socks, I lose some ground feel, and they still slip around a bit on my feet. I haven't worn the runamoc dash but I imagine the laces would add a more secure fit. The shoe fits well - just as I ordered and has zero problems as a casual shoe. But the lack of laces and problems dealing with moisture are hard to reconcile with its purpose as a running shoe. I often run barefoot but sometimes I just need a little bit of protection. But my running form/feel is altered noticeably when I wear even these shoes compared to running barefoot, even though these are the most minimal shoe I have ever seen. Due to the slippery nature of the shoe, I sometimes need to clench my foot a bit to keep the shoe from slipping around, holding my foot and ankle in an unnatural position. I injured myself doing this on one occasion. The 2mm soles are also not the most rugged. I do slip around ever so slightly. Normally not a problem unless there is snow, or very smooth concrete. Not a shoe for multipurpose activities such as running with dogs who you must restrain from chasing squirrels because your feet won't stay firm on the ground. Next time I will get the runamoc dash with the 5mm trail sole. Still very minimal but the laces and non-perforated leather would solve moisture and foot slipping issues. In conclusion, I love these shoes for many purposes - just not running. Actually, these shoes should be fine for slow running, short distances, with zero water or sweating. Which doesn't correspond to any of the running that I do. But these have been incredible work shoes and I get many compliments on them.
  101. Comfortable whimsy

    Rating

This is my second pair of Moc3s, but I opted for a pair that would pop a little more. I used to get comments about how comfortable the shoes looked (which I would immediately confirm). Now it is that sentiment combined with a smile on their face at seeing such fun and whimsy embodied in a pair of shoes.
  102. Great shoes, amazing, but soles do come off

    Rating

The perfect shoe, so amazing, so comfortable. Have several pairs. However, the soles come off, have tried re gluing, never works. Took to a shoe specialist, he didn't think anything would work. I try and never get them wet, but sometimes the ground is damp, it gets thru.
  103. Sizing and sole thickness

    Rating

I got a pair, and was hoping I could go sock-less, but its really hard to get the right size. It's too loose with no socks, yet the next size down would be too tight. Also, the sole is super thin, takes some getting used to.
  104. Genius!

    Rating

These are the most amazing shoes I have ever owned. I tried barefoot sandals, but I needed more protection from goat hooves and berry thorns during my work at the dairy goat farm. Lately it has been freezing here, and to my surprise, I can put on two pairs of thick wool socks and still be comfortable in these shoes. But more than that, I am doing EVERYTHING in these shoes, including clean the barn, and they are surviving, even though they were not made for this kind of punishment. The only thing they can't take is rain and sloshy mud. Even then, they get wet, I dry them out, and then they work great again. I hate wearing my boots now, and only do so during the worst weather extremes. The sole did start to come off, and I put on super glue and fixed it, because I knew it was my treatment, and not the shoe itself. Now I heard from a friend that I should use shoe goo, so I will try that next time. I bought one pair that I keep "nice", and my barn pair that I wear a lot. I am surprised at how quickly the shoes recover from the barn smell. I just take the shoe brush and clean them off, and they don't smell that bad after that. Why wear other shoes when you can have this protection while being this close to barefoot? My toes are so much happier- I can't say enough good things about these shoes. My whole being feels lighter and more balanced.
  105. Nearly Perfect

    Rating

Love your shoes and have had 6 pairs between my husband and I. Great for travel- the streets of Japan, Bali- and trail running! We have noticed a wear pattern with each pair. The toes wear out even though the rest of the shoe is still usable. I would suggest a toe reinforcement to the dear Elves to make the design more durable. Happy Holidays!
  106. Great for colder running if you run barefoot

    Rating

I have been running barefoot for three years. I am in the Northeast so May through October is Ok, but once below 50 I use these for running. Great for running in the woods, and I use them at the gym where you can't be barefoot. I bring them when traveling on business and use them for my morning run. I don't find socks are necessary, but if it gets below 32 I add them. Wish Soft Star made a over boot that was just a layer of gortex with a thin sole.
  107. Fitting is difficult

    Rating

I bought these hoping to run sock free but they are a little too loose, running with socks is ok though so it's difficult to get the right size to feel right. A smaller size would most likely feel too tight. Also they do have very thin soles so while they have great ground feel, not too good for running on small gravel.
  108. outstanding! oh, and one more thing...

    Rating

I love these. they allow the total freedom for my foot and ankle to behave normally, without restriction. one small fix and soft stars would have it down perfectly. offer these, and every model, in a wide as well as a standard width. they still work for me, but would be even better with that extra room up front for the toes to splay. was thinking of ordering the rogues as well, but won't until they offer a wide. but these are great for all-around use, and also for workouts: deadlifts, etc.
  109. My sole mate

    Rating

I am a barefoot girl. When I started running 2 years ago, I jumped on the VFF wagon, convinced they were the best I could do. I have a pair of Ramblers (which I love!) from Soft Star, but had never tried their running shoes. It was time to invest in a new pair and I bit. Am I ever glad I did. From the moment I put them on they felt like a really comfortable pair of socks. I'm also very glad that when cooler weather hits I won't have to buy the silly toe socks to fit in the VFFs anymore. Thanks Soft Star elves for setting my running feet free.
  110. teacher on my feet all day

    Rating

Best decision for being in the classroom all day. When paired with thin socks it's like having on slippers and they look good and professional enough that I can get away with it.
  111. Mostly happy

    Rating

These shoes are exceptionally lightweight, flexible, and seem like they will be durable (time will tell). I was hoping that I could wear them without a sock, but started to develop sore spots and blisters after about 25 minutes, so sock-free is not an option. Oh, and the dye bled during a rainy run and left my toes looking gangrenous. Also, I would prefer that the vamp didn't ride so high. What I really want is something like a ballet slipper, snug but stretchy, that could stand up to distance running in an urban setting, but maybe that's impossible. For the record, I transitioned to minimal shoes for running about five years ago and have been wearing Soft Stars for most of that period. I'm a big fan of the shoes and of the company.
  112. Best shoes ever

    Rating

These are my favorite shoes of all time. I've owned about 5 pairs. The only downside is I've noticed the seem on the toe is the first thing that falls apart with wear. Upon getting the shoes I put 2 coats of clear nail polish over the stitching and it helps keep is from splitting. The shoes hold up with daily wear for about a year. These are shoes for people who hate shoes. I will continue to buy these shoes until I or Soft Star no longer exists. These shoes are great for daily wear, running, hiking, weightlifting, lounging etc. Strangers who never seen them before tell me they like my TOM's. Order a pair and your feet will thank you!

  115. Love them but too narrow

    Rating

I love these! But could these come in wide? After being barefoot for 5+ years my feet have become too wide for these. Note from Elves: We would love them in a wide, as well! Sorry we don't have those patterns at the ready for you now, but it is definitely on our list of things to do.
  116. LOVE = Soft Star Moc3 RunAmoc

    Rating

Over the years I have really grown to dislike shoes in general. I have found myself wanting to be barefoot most of the time, but unfortunately we live in a world where we pour oil on the Earth for our oil guzzling cars to drive on. -that stuff gets hot, and it hurts on the feet. So for my dollar, (and my feet) I'll buy Soft Star every time, for the most comfortable, stylish, durable shoe- that is just enough shoe to be the Moc3 RunAmoc. I LOVE THIS SHOE! Thank you guys at Soft Star and, Thanks to Mike Friton, at the Portland Art Institute, for the best thing the human foot can wear, in the history of shoes.
  117. Good but thin

    Rating

These are great for running or walking the dog. You feel EVERYTHING! That's not a good thing when you walk on a stone or are not used to going so barefoot and close to the ground. I really like these shoes. I go to the dog park in these and it's nice around there because of the grass. I made the mistake of wearing these all day at Disneyland where there are too many odd and hard surfaces. These are good for experienced barefoot enthusiasts. For myself, I would probably not order this particular pair again but who knows, they might really grow on me.

A little difficult at first, it took time to let my feet get used to running with such a thin sole. Once ready, I will always run with because it feels like EVERYTHING is happening under our feet. This kind of shoes made me run again. Before knee pain interrupted me very quickly. 121. The Ultimate Barefoot Shoe if ...

    Rating

This shoe could be the ultimate barefoot running shoe if the wearer does not mind gluing them back together on a weekly basis. I was able to get about three months of consistent running on these shoes before the bottom surface started to disbond. So my Sunday evenings have become my re-glue days. I have found that German made adhesive from Continental (originally used to adhere tubular tires to bicycle rims)works well for this purpose. Note from Soft Star Shoes: We are sorry to hear this - please give our friendly customer service elves a ring a this sounds like a warranty issue we can help you with.
  122. For people who don't like shoes

    Rating

I used to despise wearing shoes, but these allow my feet to feel very natural and free. I've done many miles in Vibram five fingers and Merrell road gloves, but love that I can slip these on and off in two seconds. I feel more connected to the ground, and the Earth overall, in these shoes. I was hesitant to buy them because of the leather factor. After careful consideration, I chose to go with this shoe because they're made as greenly as possible by Elves who are well cared for. I also love that they're made in the U.S. and the customer service is outstanding.
  123. Best Running Shoe Design in Human History

    Rating

Over the past 4 years, I've tested nearly every minimal running shoe/sandal on the market. These are the best. They allow me to go on long runs, at fast or slow speeds, in all sorts of terrain---with no sign of wear and tear on my body. They are lightweight and there is little friction or sliding upon landing. They are the closest thing on the market to going completely barefoot, but they provide protection to the skin without causing blisters. They constitute a truly important contribution to human culture---to our ability to thrive and to understand, first hand, the essence of movement.
  124. they warm my heart and sole

    Rating

I got these after tiring of the inevitable frequent and ultimately useless laundering of five finger shoes. I do enjoy watching my toes get froggy, but that smell is not great. The RunAmocs are a great alternative. Plenty of space for your toes, great ground feel, and they even do well in really cold weather. At first I was a bit skeptical about the look-- if a person was a nurse and a leather fetishist these would be perfect-- but they go with everything. A few months in I experienced technical difficulties and contacted Soft Star. Their response was prompt and fantastic. In fact, their willingness to work with me and assume positive intent is what caused me to come here and leave a review. Five stars for the shoes, five stars for the customer service. Would absolutely buy again and recommend. Super comfy, they stay fresh, and keep your feet, ankles and knees feeling good all day. Yay!
  125. Great for Barefoot Runners in Cold

    Rating

Over the past three years, I've been transitioning to minimalist running and finally (this year) to barefoot running. During the spring, summer, and fall in New England, barefoot running is feasible. But once temps drop below, say, 40 degrees, the pavement is cold and the sand (put down for the cars) hurts. This winter, I've been running in RunAmocs, typically three days a week, 3 to 5 miles at a time. Even though I don't wear socks, they work great to protect my feet from the cold and ouchies, despite single-digit temps. And yet they still offer some ground feel and don't smell at all (unlike my VFFs which smell after a couple of uses). I'm a big fan of RunAmocs!
  126. Made the soles of my feet hurt

    Rating

I tried these shoes because I like everything about them in concept, but they made the soles of my feet hurt. I kept them for walking, but it still hurt. The bottom of my feet felt raw in a way that they never do while truly barefoot. I recently gave these shoes away. I do, however, wear the original RunAmoc daily.
  127. My New Go-To Shoe

    Rating

I ordered these for a triathlon, but stuck with my DASH RunAmocs for the race (which are also great shoes, especially for running). My feet seem to be between sizes, and I was worried these might be too small. I took them on some short runs, and was too nervous about my race to formulate an opinion. But over the past two months or so that I've had these, I keep slipping them on without thinking about it. I've got several pairs of minimalist shoes, including a couple of Vibram Five Fingers, Inov-8s, and New Balance, but it's these that keep ending up on my feet. This is saying a lot, because I can't even say I find them cute or endearing as I do the others. I love the soles especially, and they are conversation starters. Mostly, I love how free they make my feet feel. I own three pairs of Soft Stars, the two mentioned here, plus a pair of Mary Janes for my wedding. I am certain I'll be a Soft Star customer for life.

  129. 1 year, tough to beat

    Rating

I love my bare feet but I also love to run rough trails. Here in northern New Jersey I have some very rocky hills to run through, and these mocs are great to supply minimal protection and maximum feel. I have run in the Vibram 5fingers KSO Trek previously (for 2yrs) but after cracking my unprotected pinky toe for the 3rd time I went for the closed moc. These feel great, very light and nimble, and I started wearing them on the streets as well. After 1 year they have begun tearing in front but I really never expected them to last this long. One modification-- I added a leather lace to keep the fit more snug under the ankle.

Late last summer I started the process of weaning my feet off their comfy Nike Pegasus pillow-shoes. My goal was to gradually change my running form so that I could run consistently in minimal shoes. I got a pair of Altra Instincts (which I really like), and started alternating them with the Nikes. I did some barefoot running drills to improve my form, and then a bit more, and gradually I realized that barefoot running was more comfortable and enjoyable, so that became my goal. That was in mid November, brilliantly timed to coincide with the looming winter solstice. I've run up to a mile in 30F weather barefoot, but it's not so fun when you can't feel your feet. I got the RunAmoc3 in late November, and it's become my go-to running shoe. They seem to run a bit small, so I had to go with a 13 (I wear a 12 Nike Pegasus and 12.5 Altra Instinct). I wear them with socks when it's below 25F and they keep my feet plenty warm. I've tried huaraches, but I find the RunAmocs are more comfortable and have a thinner sole that provides better feedback from the ground. They look a bit like Darth Vader's bedroom slippers, but don't let that stop you from getting a pair--they feel awesome when you're running. They slip on easily, they pack as flat as a pair of socks for travel, and they have reflector bands on the heels so you won't get run over when running in the frigid pre-dawn--which is important because you'll want to run in the dark cold pre-dawn days of late winter with these shoes. If you're new to minimalist running, ease into RunAmocs gradually--it's taken me several months to get to the point of running four miles a day in them, and that included several weeks of rotating them with my Altras. But it's totally worth it, and these are the best thing going next to going barefoot.

about one year - LOVE these shoes

    Rating

Almost one year of running and these remain the best minimalist shoes I have worn. Update on sole wear: overall, the sole has held up great. The outer layer of the left heel has just begun to wear away. The right heel hit something sharp a few months back and the outer layer breached. With this damage, the inner layer quickly wore away. Nothing a little shoe goo cannot maintain. I would expect about one year for any shoe - so I am completely satisfied and getting ready to order my second pair!

Of all the "shoes" I have ordered from softstar, these are definitely my favorite. Now, we'll see how long they hold up. Lee

these shoes are great, comfortable and light. they let the feet feel the ground and give one a sense of foot awareness unlike beefy shoes wich feel like "sensory deprivation chambers for the feet" recommend them to all.

I am not a runner. But I am an avid Soft Star wearer when I HAVE to wear shoes. I bought a pair of Moc3s last year. I wore them as slippers all winter then, since May, they have been my daily outdoor shoe. They are just now showing signs of wear. An amazing shoe! Just ordered a pair for my wife, a minimalist shoe / barefoot runner and trainer, a pair in fuschia. Thanks Elves!!!

Previous to my runamoc3s, I had vibrams, they didn't offer enough space for my little toes, and they smelled pretty gnarly after a run or two. People tried all kinds of crazy things to stop the smell, but eventually most people just gave in, and suggested getting use it. Well the runamoc3s have ZERO smell, and are EXTREMELY comfortable & light. Originally bought them just for trail running in AZ, but after wearing them for five minutes, now I wear them in lieu of my normal shoes. These are by far the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. Worth every penny!

Now that I have several more months and miles, I can still say these are the best minimalist shoe I have worn. These shoes are durable (top and bottom), complete freedom of movement and enough protection to safely/comfortable run on dirt, gravel or pavement.
  137. Getting there, I hope.

First, the product itself. Fantastic. Extremely well made and they feel wonderful. I've ventured into the gym with them because most don't allow you to be barefoot and these are great. Rocks on tracks/concrete hurt, but eh. You have to be aware of your surrounding. My big issue is the size of the shoe and the fact that I am unable to get away from blisters. I ordered the 7Us because my foot from heel to big toe was 9.5 inches. But perhaps they are too big. I am getting friction blisters between the toes and soles and also on the inside ball of my foot and the middle front of the soles. I do not wear them with socks but hope to not have to rely on them to keep from blistering. Perhaps I got a size too big? Once I find a solution I will add another review.
  138. Best shoe I've ever owned... period.

I've owned MOC3s since they first came out last year. They are just now starting to not look new but still have a lot of life left in them. Superbly built. The most comfortable, barefoot-like feel I've found (and I've tried a few things, from huaraches to Vivobarefoots). When these wear out, I will buy again. Now waiting to receive my Chocolate Run-Amocs with leather soles--wonder how they will compare.

    Love these!

    Rating

I have been in these shoes a couple months. I was wearing Vibram Bikila's for a couple years (my first minimalist shoes), but growing tired of the toes. I had worn RunAmocs for cold and snow and was excited to see Moc3 as a FF replacement. First couple times out, developed blisters on couple toes and HUGE blisters on both outer heels. Then tried with a half anklet sock (toes free). No more heel blisters. Love the ground feel while still adequately protected, ample room for toes and no restrictions of movement. Both my toes and heels are happy now! I typically wear out the outer heel, so will be curious how long this Vibram sole holds up. FYI - I run gravel trail and blacktop, 30 min x 3 week.
  140. The Perfect Shoe

    Rating

I wear this shoe as my primary every-day shoe. I cannot imagine a more perfect shoe. They fit tight to the bottom of my feet. Wearing them is like walking barefoot with some protection. For me these are better than VFFs and have replaced my need for VFFs. Thank you for having the vision to create and produce these.

I didn't know the RunAmoc could've been improved, but I was wrong. between these and my RunAmocs, I don't need another running "shoe". thanks for making great stuff, Soft Star!

I recently bought a pair of RunAmoc Moc3's with the idea of wearing them exclusively for workouts at my neighborhood gym. I found my Moc3's to be so great-looking and super-comfortable, though, that I'm now wearing them everywhere. They're without a doubt the most comfortable hard/semi-hard sole shoes I've ever worn. Their incredible comfort even has some of my soft sole moccasins beat. (But not my favorite Soft Star mocs, of course!) :-) I can't imagine a better minimalist running/workout/all-purpose shoe than the Moc3. With their unique Vibram soles, I'm sure they'll be quite durable. They're also extremely lightweight, flexible, breathable and stylish, and oh -- did I mention mega-comfortable? (Yeah, I guess I did!) What more could you ask for in any shoe? The Soft Star elves truly have an awesome design in the Moc3. I hope they make them forever, because I definitely plan to keep coming back for more!

I got these shoes late last fall. I have to run barefoot or close to it due to an injury and was looking for something that would take me through the winter. Last year I wore a cheap pair of sneakers with no cushioning and they were ok but I'm planning to run a marathon this year and I wanted something better. I had looked at several "minimal" models at my local Rogan's shoes and was sorely disappointed - I could tell even in the store that they would aggravate my injury. I also don't like stuff between my toes and since I live in Wisconsin I really NEED to wear socks to avoid frostbite, so Five Fingers are out. Then I remembered Soft Star. I'd ordered some mocs years back for my kids and myself and they were AWESOME - everyone loved them. I figured they'd make fine barefoot running shoes. So I was delighted to come back and find the RunAmoc line. I wear a size 8.5 (women's)street shoe (about a 7 men's)and when I was wearing conventional running shoes wore a size 9. I thought I should allow a little room for thick winter socks, so I ordered my Moc3's in a size 8. They were great but did flop a bit. Fortunately my daughter fell in love with them and has bigger feet than I do. So now they're hers, and I ordered myself a pair of 7's. These fit very nicely with room for warm socks. These shoes are AWESOME! They're super light and comfy, and feel about as close to running barefoot as I imagine you can get (minus the occasional glass splinter, which I don't miss at all.) I love the glove-like feel, and how fast and easy it is to take them on and off. I got the street version, and you can definitely feel the terrain, which I happen to like. However if I was doing a lot of running on rocky trails I'd probably opt for the trail version. I was afraid at first that the black shoes might mark up my socks if they got wet, but so far that hasn't happened at all. Also so far I've had almost no break-in blistering from getting used to new shoes, which is unusual for me, especially with the higher mileage I've been putting in. The one thing I'm not that crazy about is that they're pretty slippery on ice or even wet grass, so if you get them (which I'd totally recommend), be ultra careful in these situations. They will also allow water through to your feet pretty easily if you run in wet conditions. (I've taken to hitting the gym when it's icy or very cold & wet. Today was warm and wet and I took them out for 9 miles. Wet feet but no discomfort.) So if a 4.5 rating had been an option that's what I would have rated them. However they are such incredible shoes otherwise that I didn't have to think too hard about rounding up. When they first came they reminded me of ballet shoes and I had some concern that the ultra thin sole and the leather adjacent to the sole might wear out quickly. However it's now 5 months later and they are holding up very well. The shoes do seem to run just a little large. I will have to see how the 7's fit as the weather warms up and I ditch the heavy socks. I'm thinking I may want to go a half size smaller yet in a summer pair. If I do, I'm definitely springing for the extra $15 to get them in lime green!

The more minimalist the better the shoe right? Absolutely. When I ran a 50K through Hell Michigan this past fall I chose to run the trails with the Moc3. Since that race I have ran over 200 miles of trail and pavement loving every step. I loved them so much I baught a Design your own pair in Red... People call them my Ruby Red Slippers as I run past them.
