A zipper on the outside of these sheepskin leather boots makes this style easy to wear over or under pant legs, and our zero-drop Vibram sole provides excellent traction in mild to moderate winter conditions. Go ahead, don’t let cold weather stop you from “blazing” a trail!

  • Durable, flexible, and lightweight soles
  • Zero-drop Vibram Tundra sole measures 4mm thick, plus 3mm additional midsole material (plus sheepskin fluff)
  • Fully lined with genuine sheepskin featuring replaceable Sheepskin Plus Innersoles
  • Roomy toe box featuring the Hybrid REGULAR sole shape
  • Can be worn with or without socks
  • Handcrafted in the USA from premium, responsibly-sourced leathers

Please allow 1–2 weeks lead time for this product, especially during peak boot season (November–December).

Sizing Note:
Beginning October 2023, the Phoenix boot features a wider, roomier toe box. As a result, the Adult Phoenix now fits more true to size. Those with higher volume feet may still want to size up one size.

When your new Phoenix boots arrive they should fit snugly and feel a little tight since the natural sheepskin will stretch with wear, but the length of the boot should not cause your toes to curl against the front seam—a sign that the size is too small. Sorry, but half sizes, wide or narrow widths, are not available at this time.

You can measure your feet or your child's feet at home using a book, a ruler and a wall. You can then see where the measurement fits on our unisex shoe size chart to find the recommended shoe size.

Measure Your Feet...

Place bare foot with heel barely touching the wall and longest toe barely touching the flat spine of a book. Step away carefully and measure the distance from the wall to the book.

Care Tips for Full Grain (smooth) Leather Shoes

Includes Sublime, Nova, Dublin, Highline, Torino, Shiny, LITE, Plonge, Aged, and Vegetable-Tanned Leathers

WHEN THEY FIRST ARRIVE:

Softstar Shoes are made from eco-friendly leathers tanned in the USA. Leather is a natural product and some variation in texture and hide markings is to be expected. Because we use leather colored with non-toxic food grade dyes, there will likely be some initial color transfer to your socks or skin if your shoes become damp. This will decrease with use, but we don't recommend wearing your new Softstars with your favorite white socks the first time you take them for a spin.

If your shoes are a little snug at first in the toe box area, you can gently stretch them by stuffing the toe box with a dry cloth. Push the cloth tightly into the front of the shoe and let sit stuffed overnight to stretch. Do not use a damp cloth as the water can stain the leather or innersole of some leather types, rendering it non-returnable.

MAINTENANCE:

Most full grain leather we use is naturally water resistant, but our special vegetable-tanned leather (available only by custom selection on some of our design-your-own shoes) and Colorado leather are "naked" leathers and will stain from water alone. You can clean shoes as needed with water dampened cloth and let air dry, but please note if you do this on vegetable-tanned or Colorado leather then you will need to wet/stain the entire shoe to avoid water marks. Condition the leather as often as desired with any quality leather dressing, but be careful to keep it away from the edges of your rubber soles. Do not use mink oil on your shoes, as it can degrade the adhesion on bonded soles and cause the sole to separate from your shoe over time. We highly recommend Bee Natural Amore for general conditioning or Rain & Snow or Nikwax Full Grain Waterproofing on smooth leather for enhanced water resistance. The color on shiny metallic shoes will eventually patina with use into an antique wear look, which can be accelerated with repeated use to water and high wear (e.g. scuffing toes).

WASHING:

We do not recommend frequent washing of any leather product as it strips the leather of it's natural oils and tends to dry stiffer. For all of our leathers (except vegetable-tanned) you can clean by hand with a damp cloth, or if needed you can hand wash your leather shoes using a gentle shampoo and cool water. Let them air dry. Do not attempt to dry your shoes by exposing them to high heat, such as a clothes dryer, a hair dryer or by leaving them on a radiator or next to a fire. Doing so may damage leather or rubber soles.

We are often asked if our shoes can be washed in a washing machine. While not recommended as a normal course of action, when in dire straits the Elves have been known to toss a pair of shoes in the machine and generally have had good results. Just don't mix them with any other item because of color bleeding. Shoes with sheepskin can take 3-4 days to air dry if fully submerged in water, but you can speed up the drying by stuffing with old newspapers and replacing the paper twice a day.

Care Tips for Suede and Nubuck Shoes

WHEN THEY FIRST ARRIVE:

Softstar Shoes are made from eco-friendly, tanned in USA leathers. Leather is a natural product and some variation in texture and markings is to be expected. Because we use natural food grade dyes in our leather, there will likely be some initial color transference to your socks or skin if your shoes become damp. This will decrease with use, but please do not wear your new Soft Stars with your favorite white socks the first time you take them for a spin!

If your shoes are a little snug at first across the top of the toes, you can gently stretch them by stuffing the toe box with a slightly damp rag. Push the cloth tightly into the front of the shoe (don't worry, you won't hurt it). Let the stuffing sit in the shoes overnight to stretch the leather.

MAINTENANCE:

Use a suede brush to remove dirt. You can also choose to use a suede/nubuck leather care product to protect against stains and water absorption (we recommend Nikwas Nubuck & Suede Proof). While not necessary, it will help keep your shoes looking new over time. Do not use generic leather care products on suede, but only those specifically formulated for suede. Products for full grain or smooth leather will be too oily and may permanently darken and mat suede fibers. Please do not use mink oil on any Softstar shoes as it will mat the fibers of our natural leather and will break down the adhesive soling on styles that have bonded soles.

WASHING:

We do not recommend frequent washing of any leather product because it will strip the leather of it's natural oils and cause it to dry stiffer. When a suede brush is not enough, you can use a damp cloth or hand wash your suede shoes with a gentle shampoo and cool water, then let them air dry. Do not attempt to dry your shoes by exposing them to high heat, such as a clothes dryer, a hair dryer or by leaving them on a radiator or next to a fire. Doing so may damage leather or rubber soles.

We are often asked if our shoes can be washed in a washing machine. While not recommended as a normal course of action, when in dire straits the Elves have been known to toss a pair of shoes in the machine and generally have had good results—just don't mix them with any other item because of color bleeding. Be sure to give your wet shoes ample time to air dry. Shoes with sheepskin can take 3-4 days to air dry if fully submerged in water, but you can speed up the drying process by stuffing them with old newspapers and replacing the paper twice a day.

Care Tips for Sheepskin Boots

Softstar Phoenix boots are made from genuine, high quality sheepskin.

While genuine sheepskin is incredibly cozy and beautiful, it is also delicate and will stretch under strain. When wearing your Phoenix boots, use care to avoid stepping off the back or sides of your heels while you walk as doing so repeatedly can affect the shape of the boots and alter the way they fit. The best way to prevent this is by insuring you purchase the correct size. For adults, we recommend selecting a boot size that fits very snugly at first, as they will stretch over time. For children, growing room is important, so a little extra space is recommended. If possible, have your kids wear their boots the first few times on dryer days to give them time to form to their feet.

The boot uppers are made from eco-friendly leathers that are tanned in the USA. Our leather hides are natural products and some variation in texture and markings is to be expected. If you need to clean your boots, wash gently by hand with a damp cloth and let them air dry.

Condition the leather as often as desired with any quality leather care product, but take care not to get any oils on the edges of the rubber soles. Mink oil, specifically, will degrade the sole adhesion and can lead to separation of soling over time—we do not recommend the use of mink oil anywhere on our boots, as it can eventually seep down to the sole. For general conditioning we recommend Bee Natural Amore, For enhanced moisture protection we recommend Bee Natural Rain and Snow or Nikwax Full Grain Waterproofing. Be careful to use these products only on the smooth leather portion of the shoes and not on the suede cuffs (leather care products designed for the full grain leather uppers may permanently darken suede). It is not necessary to apply a suede protectant or waterproofing to the cuffs, but doing so may help keep that portion of the boot looking clean. If you do choose to add extra protection to the suede, be careful to use a product specifically made for suede leather.

Sheepskin boots can take 3-4 days to air dry if fully soaked with water. You can speed up the drying process by stuffing the boots with old newspapers and replacing the paper twice a day. If they become this wet, be very careful to avoid wearing them again until fully dry because the leather will be more susceptible to stretching and the fit may alter. Do not attempt to dry your shoes by exposing them to high heat, such as a clothes dryer, a hair dryer or by leaving them on a radiator or next to a fire. Doing so may damage leather or rubber soles.

So lush, but I wish it had a primal toe box

    Rating

These are heaven on earth, and would make running outdoors for fun super duper easy. That said, the new toe box was fine for volume, except I would prefer the primal sole for the big toe to splay outward. So I am going to wait for that. If you do not need so much splay room, they are amazing! So so soft inside. If you need toe volume room, request maximum seam allowance in the comment section before you place your order.

    Love My New Boots!

    Rating

These boots are awesome. I just love them. They are so warm and toasty and very comfortable. At first they were a bit snug but they have molded to my feet nicely. I highly recommend these boots. My other Softstar shoes are Primal wide so I thought they might be too narrow, however these boots are wide enough for me.

Small Sizing & Drafty Up Top

    Rating

I live in WI and walk and bike as my primary means of getting around, including in the winter. I've wanted shearling boots for a while and was really excited to see these offered by softstar. I ordered a size 11 hoping to size up for thick socks as I own and wear several pairs of Hawthorne Chukkas (10 Wide) and Roo Moccasins (10 Wide) - which all feel a bit large for me in length already. I was surprised by how short the size 11 fit me and while I expected them to loosen up significantly, my toes were pressing on the front of the boot very strongly. The width felt fine even though there wasn't a wide option. I probably would have exchanged them for a size 12 (or 13?) if the design were better for cold weather. Unfortunately, the boots are very large at the top even for my very large calves. This makes it a very impractical boot to weather in cold weather. It's especially disappointing since the design includes a zipper. The loose top is needed for a boot without a zipper, but with the zipper these could fit really great around the leg. Given the thick shearling a more fitted design would close the air gap and still accommodate a wide range of calf sizes. I'd buy this boot in a heartbeat (in a size that fits) if the upper were redesigned to provide better performance in cold temperatures.

    Response from store

Note from the Elves: Dear Wisco Wide - Thank you so much for your feedback! Please note the Phoenix should feel quite snug when you first get them when wearing normal socks. This is because the shearling will compress and the shoes will start to feel much bigger afterwards. I will pass your feedback along to our design team about the 11U calf- thanks again!.

    Adult Phoenix Boot

    Rating

I went one size up as I have Adult Duck feet, and they were a perfect fit. Love them as I had him try them on too. He had recommended Softstar shoes to me. Both the boots and both pair of shoes have been wonderful. I'm looking for a petroleum free product to protect them.
  6. Amazing

    Rating

I ordered these a few months ago and have waited to review until we had some seriously cold weather here in the upper Midwest. Spent two full days outdoors at a class, temperature in the low teens and I was warm and cozy in my boots. My feet never got cold (snow on the ground) and I am impressed! I have been walking around outside for a few weeks now in the snow and rain and have had no issues with water in these boots. You’ll likely be as thrilled as I am with them!

    Great Boot/Outside Slipper

    Rating

Overall, these boots are fantastic. I'm between sizes and sized down per the recommendation, and they are breaking in nicely (though they did feel tight at first). They are extremely comfortable. Some areas I think could be improved in a future version: - Make the leg of the boot skinnier. This may be a personal problem with my thin legs, but the top feels very loose to the point that I doubt it'll provide much leg warmth. In addition, layering these underneath pants looks pretty goofy (unless you're wearing very loose pants) - Replace the suede with leather. The suede is less functional and I'm not big on the style. It also makes the boots slightly harder to maintain.
  8. Worth it

    Rating

I separate from Raynaud’s and buy a cheap pair of boots every winter and end up still suffering from Raynaud’s. On Top of that I have Taylor’s bunions so I need a wide toe box On top of something warm enough to keep my feet safe. I bought these and wore them all winter long. There is no breaking in time and they are warm and cozy. I did not have a Raynaud’s attack all winter so it was worth every penny I spent. I like their shoes so much that I just got a pair of fireside booties and I also have a pair of oil slippers that was my first pair. The craftsmanship is superior. The fit superb. The sheepskin nice and warm. Love them! Love them all.

OK, my 15 yr old went totally barefoot until she was about 10. She is a self made barefoot shield expert. Her feet are super wide. It's nearly impossible to find footwear that works, she wears softstar shoes and vivo barefoot toe shoes for hiking. We desperately needed winter footwear. She loves these. We order size 9 in softstar shoes but sized up to 11 to be sure these would be spacious enough and they are just right. She's worn them all winter now for miles of walks around town without a complaint, and with seriously warm and comfortable feet. She runs hot and these shoes haven't been too hot. Perfect barefoot winter wear.

    Phoenix boots

    Rating

Great boots. I used a few times so far, no socks. They are very warm, I used during winter camping in Adirondacks, New York at around 0F. No issues at all. I was a little heating between 10 and 11, but I got an advice from softshoe to get 11 and if they break I can put socks. So far they broke a little but I still prefer to use without socks. Highly recommend.
  11. Finally mine!

    Rating

I have been eyeing these boots for years and years and now developing a number of uncomfortable foot issues, I bought them for myself. Since purchasing, about two years ago, I can say they are as good as they were brand new, with the toes just now showing wear. They keep me warm and dry, above all though, my feet are coming back around to feeling more like feet, less like hooves. I am glad to see the new wider toe box as these ones do seem kinda narrow. I did listen to the comments and sized up, but didn’t really need to. Looking forward to a new colourful pair! A note to the elves…if you made an ankle boot version, I would be the first in line. I wear these all year round, to the beach…everywhere…because they are so comfortable, durable and super cute. A booty would be a dream ❤️❤️❤️

    Boots like whoa

    Rating

I love these boots. The fur on the inside is so cozy. The toe box is wide and comfortable. All I’d change is sewing in the parts that are glued, I understand the limitations to doing this, but I use these a lot, and it’d be great if they held up even better. For your average consumer, they’d last a long time, I’m super active. Thanks!

    So comfy and warm!

    Rating

It's early in the winter so I haven't had the opportunity to test these in snow, wind, or extreme cold, but I'm looking forward to it because they keep my feet so toasty warm even with no socks at 20F. My feet a pretty wide and they fit great and allow my toes room to splay, and the sole is flexible enough that I can feel the ground but has enough cushion that I'm comfortable on hard surfaces for long periods of time too. The quality is awesome and they seem like they'll last forever. So glad I invested in these!

  15. Very cozy!

    Rating

I ordered during the closeout sale, so I did order a size up as recommended. When my boots arrived, I was surprised that they were actually a bit loose. I think that I was sent the updated style, because I can't imagine anyone thinking these run narrow or small! My feet are 25.5 CM, usually a 39 or a 40 euro. The Elves recommended the 9U size, and said I could even do the 10U possibly. Not the case! These were borderline too big, very high quality and comfortable though. I wish I had gotten the 8U, but I didn't know these would be the updated style! Overall, great boot, I might purchase another insole to make them fit better.

These boots are so cute and soft!! They feel like barefoot shoes, but even the sole is warm enough that my feet didn’t get cold hanging outside in the snow at 15F for an hour or so. I love them so much that I try to find excuses to wear them indoors like slippers.

I was not sure what to expect with these boots but I love minimal footwear, Softstar was my first, so I took the plunge. Wow. I hardly know how to describe the amazing way these Phoenix boots feel. ???? I have six small children at home so my time is precious and I hardly ever get outside to play. Once these awesome boots arrived ???? I never had to waste time again looking for socks! I thought I'd need to apply some waterproofing product but Nay! I ran all through our snowy woods and yard for as long as I wanted and when I was done I was still warm and cozy. As with every other new type of Softstar footwear I've tried, I'm so in love I want to buy a pair for everyone I like.

I am a big fan of 'The Rouges'. I am also a big fan of winter, so i decided to get these boots. The boots are everything you'd imagine a SS shoe to be~super cozy, warm and well made. However, if you are not of European build and have a smaller frame, and hence smaller calves, than the top of the boot will be loose and snow can enter the top and into your boot. They are loose enough that i can slip my foot into and out of the boots without unzipping. For the price, i wish they fit. That being said; i appreciate this company, their customer service, their values and craftsmanship. For reference my calves have about a 12" circumference. I am not a cobbler, but it would be ideal if the top of the boot could be sized like the bottom so as to ensure a good fit. Until then, I will not repurchase.

I've been wearing softstar shoes for at least a decade, so I'm familiar with the quality and fit. I'm kinda between sizes, so some styles fit better in size 6 and other styles in size 7. I followed the suggestion to go bigger for these boots and ordered size 7. They felt a wee bit snug brand new, but still comfortable, and they've relaxed to my foot shape perfectly.
  23. suuuuuper small

    Rating

the sizing charts are nonsense - for all the shoes. the first pair of run amoks i have came a full size too big (8). i ordered a second pair a size down (7), which fit perfectly. when i ordered my first attempt at the phoenix boots, i ordered a 7, as there was no special sizing note about them. i could barely get my foot into them. second attempt - a size larger, and still too small, even barefoot. on the THIRD try, TWO FULL SIZES up from my regular softstar size, they're friggin GREAT. i can't wait to wear them in actual winter, since it took from christmas till march to get the right size. still. comfy, warm, and i haven't had any issues with water yet. but you still lose 2 stars for the sizing fiasco.

    My wet winter go to

    Rating

I love these boots, especially with the replaceable sheepskin insole. Living in Western Washington, it's great to have a barefoot shoe that is actually waterproof! I use SnoSeal protectant, especially on the seams and stitching and they have to get really soaked for a really long time before they start to feel damp inside. My feet never get too cold or too hot in these. They're just great. I have four pairs. If they came in a version that was Nova leather all the way up (not suede tops), laced snug and had a lug sole, I would replace my very inferior Vivobarefoot hiking boots with them for muddy, snowy trails! I continue to dream!

Glad I purchased, but need way to adjust volume

    Rating

I purchased my Phoenix boots during the 2019 the boot sale. I'm grateful for the warmth they provided last winter. I recommend trying these if you have very cold feet, as the genuine sheepskin interior performs as advertised, being both insulating and breathable. I agree with others' suggestions for a more aggressive winter sole, and heel bumpers. My wish for future versions of this boot is a method to account for low volume feet. My inelegant work-around is wearing ankle weights (I had some already) strapped around the *outside* of the boots. Certainly this adds bulk to an already bulky boot, but allows me to wear them without them falling off while walking. I believe I purchased the appropriate length/size from those offered. A half-size down (which is not offered) would have helped, but not solved the volume issue. I have this issue with most boots, even those that lace up. Socks also help, but the sheepskin is best against bare feet. Kudos to Softstar for the great, friendly customer service and wide variety of minimal foot wear made in the USA!!
  27. Great boot

    Rating

I loved the quality, look and materials, however the shape of the toe box did not work for my feet. I was hoping for more of an ugg fit (rounded toe box). The shape cut into the space needed for my third, fourth and fifth toes. Please could you offer this boot in a wide width or change the shape of the toe box to be more uniformly round and wide! I would buy again with this change!!
  28. Needs improvement

    Rating

These boots are good looking and the soles are comfortable. They're warm and the fur is functional. But they miss some fairly obvious marks. They leak and are not waterproof for long. I feel they started off waterproof but on my second or third winter of light wear (only when really snowy and wet) they leak. At this price point I'm a bit shocked. The have no rubber on the back of the heel so the leather kind of looses shape and collapses and scrapes on the ground. I cannot understand this design decision. As soon as I put them on I thought it would be a problem but I also figured they'd tested these and I was projecting unnecessarily. Turns out I was right and it's a bad desinlgn that unnecessarily compromises the leather. Mukluks have similar type designs but usually have rubber on the back of the heel to protect the leather and to give the boot more structure. Lastly, after the lack of rubber on the heel back and loss of waterproofing, the last issue is the sole has no lugs or studs or deep grooves to deal with slush, ice, and slippery ground. Seems like a bit of a crazy sole for winter. But it's comfortable, even if not super grippy. It's not super slippery but on ice or slush you have to be careful more than you do with traditional winter boots. And that's totally preventable. It's rare to find a "barefoot" style boot with actual deep lugs or grooves for grip, so this is not alone in that regard. That said they are super comfortable and good looking (except for the collapsed, ground-scuffed leather around the heel) and the service the elves provide is second to none. It's a company you can't help but love and a boot you can live with that you wish you could truly love.
  29. Too narrow

    Rating

They arrived too small, sent them back for a larger size. (Fantastic costumer service, thank you!) Even in the larger size they're just too narrow. I don't have particularly wide or high volume feet but these were still too narrow across the top of the foot for me and no way I could wear correct toes with them. They're warm and fuzzy and lovely and I really wish they could have worked for me. It's so hard to find good minimal winter boots. If they are ever made in a wide I'd order them in a heart beat!
  30. My favourite winter boots

    Rating

I'm on my 3rd pair of Phoenix Boots. Still my favourite winter boots so far. My first pair made it through 6 1/2 winters - the structure of the boot is still good, but the sheepskin is so worn/matted that they were starting to bother my feet. My second pair only lasted a year and a half before the leather ripped where the heel meets the sole - however, to be fair, that was the time that I started to walk a lot (10-12 kms/day) and boot weather is about 6 months here. My newest pair has a slightly different design at the heel, so hopefully the problem will not be repeated. Temperatures last week were -43C with a -53C wind chill and I was out walking for 30-40 minutes at a time with no socks and my toes were nice and toasty warm!
  31. Almost perfect

    Rating

First, the things I love. They are very soft and comfortable, and the sole is nice and flexible! I’ve tried other “barefoot” boots that were not flexible at all. So I appreciate that these are! Now for the cons. I have a wide foot, so I ordered a larger size than normal. Though it doesn’t feel big and clunky to walk in, that’s how it looks to me. They extend past my toes more than they should and I feel like my feet look too big. That’s my biggest complaint. Aesthetically speaking, I’m not in love with them. It may be just because they’re too long.
  32. I will never have cold feet again

    Rating

I got these in bright red. I sometimes wish I got them in brown, but it doesn't make me love them less. I followed the sizing instructions exactly. They were snug at first, but I would say they fit perfectly. I haven't water-proofed them, but I've noticed a drizzle or a few drops of rain hasn't done them any harm. They are really fun to go stomping around in the winter. They look like UGG boots, but are far less clunky looking, and are much more suited for lots of walking. They only enhance an outfit, let's say. I know we are going to have a long relationship.
  33. Wonderful!

    Rating

As usual, every time these elves are involved, the shoes are wonderful!! My son is warm and comfortable and, although I keep reminding him not to splush around too much in puddles with them since these are not rain boots, he keeps reminding me his feet are completely dry. Unfortunately it is not always easy for us to afford them and we live on the other side of the world so there is also shipping but every time we bought them it has been completely worth it and I have seen such an incredible difference with any other very good winter boot I have bought for him! I am so grateful there are people who dedicate themselves to working hard, and clearly with live, for feet to be happy, it is so important!
  34. Love them!

    Rating

I love these boots! They are so soft, comfortable, and warm and I wear them without socks (I'm in California, so I can get away with that). My socks actually slipped down around my feet when I tried them so I decided to go without. As someone who developed plantar fasciitis while wearing orthopedic boots, I'm thrilled to find such comfy boots and to be pain-free!
  35. love these boots

This is my first pair of boots from Soft Star - I love their flats and shoes. They do not disappoint! Lined with plush fur, super comfortable, and pretty darn cute! I'll be wearing them all winter.

    Cold weather barefoot boots

    Rating

Sheepskin Phoenix Boots.... finally, cozy warm barefoot boots for the fall & winter. My preference, no socks & BF sandals all year long. So appreciative for what Softstar offers. The recommended Softstar size as well as the universal shoe size I wear is in between a whole and a half size. Often either a bit too long or short and usually too narrow. I wear 7U wide comfortably. 6U wide Solstice. Phoenix boot, toes barely touch front seam and still very comfortable. The width is a snug fit almost length too short. After wearing the leather slightly stretched already. Instead of getting 8U as suggested, chose 7U and crossed my fingers. Success! 8U would fit as well.
  37. Are calves fat?

    Rating

Because mine are I guess and these boots *just barely* fit. I don't see calf measurements listed in the description or a way to specify if you need/want yours made for a wide calf -- that should be an option. The saving grace for these is that I'm able to put them on without unzipping them, though I can not if I'm wearing socks.
  38. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my boots.

    Rating

These are my favorite softstars ever. I can wear them forever. I wish they made a shoe just like this without the top. Sheep skin lined that I could wear all the time. So comfy.
  39. Perfect - my feet move naturally in them

    Rating

Love these boots! I worried they wouldn't fit my curvy calves, but they're just perfect. With or without socks, they're comfortable and my feet can move naturally in them. My favorite winter boot.
  40. Love these - Warm!

    Rating

Love these, they really keep my feet warm and I always get compliments! I did order one size larger than I get with other shoes I've ordered here-7 or 8 pairs for myself over the years. I just wish they could be more rain proof.
  41. I love my boots

    Rating

I bought these boots because I was able to walk pain free in their shoes which I had bought the previous year. I always have a hard time walking because of pain in the ball of my foot but with their shoes and their boots, I have no pain. I’m from Canada so they were extremely expensive with the currency conversion and I also had to pay duty fees at the door so I wish they were less expensive. But my boots are worth every last penny. No more pain. I love my boots. They are so well made.
  42. My Everywhere Winter Walking Shoe

I love these boots, really warm, cozy, well -made, comfortable, and easy to get on and off. I walk everywhere in them and I walk a lot!
  43. Beautifully made - wish they were wide. These are lovely, warm, quality boots.

    Rating

These are lovely, warm, quality boots. I’m surprised though, that for minimal shoes, there is not a wide option for room to wiggle the toes. I wore them inside, but once I took them outside for a long walk, my toes were not happy. I hope they loosen up. I so want this to work because the boots are so warm and feel great everywhere else.
  44. The trick to handle the width issue!.

    Rating

I purchased these one size larger than I normally wear. They were still too narrow for my extra wide, buniony feet with CorrectToes in place. I used some shoe widening tools (the kind that screw outward to the desired width). At first, the leather didn't stretch enough. I really wanted this to work for me, I needed minimalist boots, for my difficult to fit feet with CorrectToes in place, since I spend hours of my work day in the walk-in freezer. As I was pondering my predicament,I thought: "Heat! will allow the leather to be more supple!" I was right :) I left the boots with the widening tool in front of a space heater over night, since it wasn't quite time to get the fireplace going yet. It worked !! I left them overnight like this two or three times, and I am happy to say that my boots are now quite comfortable. I will admit that I use my favorite insoles for some cushioningg, because I am working, on my feet walking all over Wal Mart many of my waking hours. I am so glad to have discovered this trick, as I have other soft star shoes that just aren't quite wide enough to be comfortable for long wear with CorrectToes . I left off one star because I don't love the appearance of the style.
  45. Best boots

Excellent quality boots that fit great. They excel at keeping your feet nice and warm during cold days. I highly recommend these boots.
  46. Beautiful fall/winter boots!

    Rating

I love my new Phoenix boots! I got the rich chocolate color and they're gorgeous. They're beautifully made and so comfortable -- cozy and soft inside. I like the combination of the smooth and suede leathers. They're different from the more common skeepskin boots. The sole is very flexible, yet has a nice tread for stability and traction. My have a wide foot. My Softstar size is a 7U and the Dash fits me fine in that. I sized up as recommended for the Phoenix to an 8U, but when I got them, they were too long for me. I talked to the Elves and ordered the 7U and they got a pair to me quite promptly. (I know it's their busy season, co that was much appreciated!) These fit much better. The length and width are fine. The elevation in the toebox is a bit tight, but I think that's just the thickness of the sheepskin and will loosen up with wear. Softstar's customer service is excellent. (Thanks, Elves!) I love my Dash RunAmocs and now my Phoenix boots. I'll definitely buy from them again. (The Chukkas and Rogues are calling me.)

    Gorgeous and comfortable

    Rating

As other folks have noted, I was unsure about sizing for these. My big toes tend to curl up, and some of the Softstar shoes are too shallow in the toe box. The new primal runamoc has been perfect, with its wider toe box, and I have those in size 8U. When trying these boots, the toe box seemed deeper, and I was vacillating between 8 and 9 - with patient help from Katy, I decided to stick with the 8.....and they've been great. It took about a week for the stretching to reach ultimate comfort, and I now wear them happily everyday. Extremely soft, very well made, and beautiful (red), I have not had a more comfortable, warm, Winter shoe. I slip them on, the shearling hugs my feet, and I am ready for the day.

  52. Fun in the cold, wet mountains of the Adirondacks

    Rating

Elves....at first I thought these where a bit too tight in the toe box, though they fit better and better the more I have worn them... they have replaced my Colombia 3/4 hiking boot as my go to winter shoes/boots when I go outside.....which is often. My environment is the cold, wet mountains of the Adirondacks...Lots of snow, lots of cold rain...lots of fun with these boots. I will buy another pair next year, even though I can tell my current ones will not be in need of replacing.
  53. Close to excellence

    Rating

I've been wearing them for one winter, they are warm, most of the time I could wear terry cotton socks, but after 10 degrees I'd rather switch to goat down socks (they are warmer, so can be made thinner, and leather won't stretch more), and here is the trouble: lots of winter socks are usually white or white with something, all the goat down socks I've found are white or silver, and the inner coloring of these boots (chocolate) have colored my terry socks badly enough so I didn't want to risk woolen socks. Dear Elves, can't you keep the inside of the boots white?
  54. Best winter footwear ever

    Rating

I wore these all of last fall and winter and can't say enough great things about them. Previously, I had been wearing... let's call it, the more popular brand of sheepskin boots? But they were so heavy, clunky, thick-soled and poorly fitting that my gait suffered and I had a hard time transitioning back into lighter spring/summer footwear. In contrast, the Phoenix boots gave me pretty close to a sandal groundfeel all winter while keeping my feet toasty warm. I also received random compliments from strangers at coffee shops on my cute shoes, which is nice! They are still in great condition (I did treat the suede with waterproofing spray) and I forsee them lasting many more seasons. We don't get a whole lot of snow where I live, but they held up to the occasional few inches easily.
  55. Too narrow for wide feet

    Rating

I was so hoping that I would be able to make these work for me, but as soon as I tried them on I knew it wouldn't. Oh how I wish these came in wide sizes; they were fuzzy and soft and simply too narrow for me. I usually buy both wide and a size bigger from softstar to make sure my toes have room (only the primal runamoc has worked for me in the recommended size thanks to the wide design of the shoe).
  56. Interior sheepskin fell apart

    Rating

These boots were a Christmas gift for 2016. i wore them inside only because my husband wanted me to baby the gift. January of 2018, I started wearing them to teach classes, standing in them for 4 hr a day. After 3 days, the interior bottom sheepskin liner is full of peaks and valleys and pilling, and incredibly uncomfortable! So, these have been warn in cold weather only and used as shoes for 3 days and slippers the rest of the time - so they are at most 5 months old - and they are worthless. I contact the Elves and was told the insole was not replaceable, but I could buy one from them and see if it would fit and would calm the mountains a little. Boo. They have been sitting by my garbage can for the last 2 months, I can't quite bring myself to throw them away. This is the second item in a row that my beloved elves have failed me.
  57. Wanted these in RED for a while

    Rating

The Phoenix boots are simply great. I own them in brown and have put them through their paces, but always wanted them in a flashier color. Then finally they come out in RED. I was delighted and quickly snatched them up. Compared to the Phoenix boots I've had from a few years ago, these newer models feel a little sturdier and the sheepskin shaft feels thicker. Plus, they moved the zipper from the inside of the boot shaft to the outside, which changes nothing to me. Otherwise, they seem like an improving evolution to what is already a great winter boot. Completely happy with them.
  58. fabulous

I love these boots. Great in snow, great barefoot, great in all weather. Super comfy. Wish it wouldn't be too hot in the summer!
  59. Wonderful in cold climate

    Rating

Hands down these are the nicest, lightest, and warmest boots I've owned. They fit wonderfully with regular winter socks. I have a narrow foot with high arch. Boot fits very well to deal with these. No heel slip or horrible tightness at top of foot. These are expensive boots, however quality and made in America are more important than price alone.
  60. Not a good fit

    Rating

I ordered these in a size 9men/10 women's according to my foot measurements. The toe box was good, but my heel kept slipping up and out of the boot heel. I contacted customer service and they suggested I go for a smaller size. So I did. Today they came and I put them on and wore them for about half hour. Too narrow, my toes fit length wise, but width felt so constricted and within 15 minutes my left foot began to tingle and feel numb. A pity, I think I'd love them if they were not so narrow in the toes. I have two other pair of soft star shoes. Some Mary Jane's and ballet shoes. I find they are better for this issue but only slightly. As a lems wearer, I've been spoiled for any other shoe as most seem to run narrow in the toe box still constricting those little wrigglers on our feet. Maybe I'll try these again if the toe box gets a wider design. Sad to still be looking for "the one" in winter wear department. If you have narrow feet, I think you'll like them, for wide feet and people who are working on spreading their toes to functional proportions... Keep looking.
  61. Barefoot Heaven

I have worn these on single digit walks with NO SOCKS half a dozen times...and no cold toes or feet. I have never worn socks with them, you don’t need them. The sheepskin is divine. I wore them for a few weeks before adding the insoles and the longer I wear them the more comfortable they become. Best, Boots, Ever.
  62. Worth every penny

These boots are incredibly comfortable and warm. I had no problem wearing my Correct Toes with these boots from Day 1 and I have a feeling it’s only going to get roomier as the sheepskin compresses. I’m very happy with this purchase.
  63. Wool quality in 2013 vs 2017

    Rating

I first purchased these boots in 2013. I loved them to death. I have worn them every winter since. They held up very well. The seam of the shoe and the vibram sole began to split which was fixed with super glue. I began a job where I stand all day. My feet grew and the size I purchased became uncomfortable. I assumed the shoes would be exactly the same and purchased the brown pair again. I was disappointed the shoes were now two toned brown and they had gone up 25$. I assumed this was to assure the quality I had purchased in 2013: supple wool and a snug fit on the foot and calf. This was not the case at all. I’ve had them about two months. I was displeased from the start. Due to the lack of supple wool, mind you it’s merely not as thick. It’s as if they switched to shearling wool for the insole. They have worn uneven. The right shoe is now to where I can feel my big toe on the bottom. Even the wool inserts are better quality. The same is to be said for the wool on the calf. It lacks the original thickness, is much finer, and does not hug the calf well enough. I am disappointed with the pair of boots. I wish I hadn’t outgrown my original pair because they are gorgeous! Unfortunately, I’ll end up buying these again in a few years because they are zero drop, the soles are good quality, and I like the leather. The wool was severely disappointing this year. So bummed. I wish it were possible to submit photos. The difference is shocking. Note from the Elves: Thanks Angelina for your review. One of our elves will be reaching out to you shortly regarding your insoles - the good news is that our 2017 boots have replaceable innersoles and we will get that addressed for you. Yes, the colors sometimes change from one collection year to the next - we will let our design elves know you prefer the solid brown boot in the future.
  64. Too narrow

    Rating

Unfortunately the boot was far too narrow and my toes were hanging out over the edge of the sole at the sides. The toe box looks much narrower than I'm used to, and narrower than I was expecting. I usually get 8U Reg so my feet aren't even super wide. 8U in Phoenix was far too narrow and I didn't end up trying 9U as the overall shape didn't look like a good fit for my foot. I think the boot is only suitable for narrow feet.
  65. Will buy these in wide

    Rating

These are super warm and cozy, wish they came in wide. I usually wear wide in softstars, so went up 1 size. I wore them for 3 seasons, but they were still too tight. I now wear the Chukkas in cold weather, but would get another pair if they ever come in wide.
  66. 6 years and counting...

    Rating

These are pricey boots, but considering I have now worn mine for 6 winters (5-6 months/year), they are definitely worth the cost! I love how comfy my Phoenix boots are - I can wear them all day with no issues. The soft sheepskin inner means that I can wear them without socks and my feet still stay warm. I did have to re-glue the soles once a couple of years ago, but they have been going strong since them. I have a second pair put away for when these current ones finally bite the dust. These were my very first pair of Soft Star shoes but were not my last. Soft Stars are now the only shoes I will wear!
  67. Outstanding shoes (untested in snow sadly!) that stay on my feet from the moment I get dressed til I get ready for bed at night - and then it's a shame to take them off!! I'm a barefoot girl and these boots are as good as it gets

    Rating

I LOVE LOVE LOVE these boots. They are on my feet all day, through walking to and from school, bushwalking, walking to the shops - slightly thicker sole than my other minimalist shoes but I can still feel most of what's going on underneath and the snug fit makes them really practical for longer walks too. The length is really versatile and they are worn with jeans, leggings, skirts - whatever. They've so far been worn for shopping in the city and campfires in the bush. Our Aussie winters probably means they'll remain untested in snow but they sure are snugly warm!
  68. Heaven on my feet

    Rating

These boots are my first pair of Soft Star shoes. They may be the most comfortable thing I've ever worn! I prefer them without socks--I find that they keep my feet just the right temperature that way. (Plus, the sheepskin is so soft and feels amazing next to my skin.) They were very easy to waterproof with the recommended Bee Natural Rain & Snow product. My 5-star rating is for the comfort of the shoes and the quality of Soft Star's customer support (aka "the Elves"). My first pair of these boots had a slight defect in one of the heels. I noticed this after wearing them for almost 2 weeks, and the Elves were very quick and helpful with the exchange process. A note on sizing: I'm normally a women's 8.5-9, depending on the style and brand, and I measured almost exactly between the Soft Star 7U and 8U sizes. My first pair were 8U's since they recommend sizing up for these boots. They broke in nicely and felt fine, but since I figured out that I like to wear them without socks, I went for a 7U when I exchanged the boots for the defect issue, and they fit perfectly.
