Rogues are wanderers, adventurers determined to get the most out of life—and enjoy every minute of it. They move in and out of circles both rugged and refined with the greatest of ease, and we’ve designed these shoes to help you do the same!

Our natural, full-grain aged leather is used exclusively for this shoe to give its rustic, heritage look. The upper interior is lined with our unique Breathe-O-Prene, a stretchy material designed for superior ventilation and breathability. This fabric also keeps the shoe fitting snugly around your foot for a secure and cozy fit. The shoe slips on easily and is so comfortable that many of our customers tell us they forget to take them off when they come home at the end of the day!

The Rogue features an 8mm version of our Vibram Geo, a lightweight, flexible sole that enables barefoot-style movement and groundfeel with improved durability and traction. The interior footbed comes with a removable, natural suede innersole AND an additional pair of sheepskin innersoles for all-weather versatility. These interchangeable insoles let you switch between suede and sheepskin to adjust for climate, thicker socks or just for a change of pace. So, ready to go Rogue?

  • Aged Walnut brown leather with grey thread accent
  • Easily slips on and stays on!
  • Lightweight: weighs 6–8oz depending on size

(Sorry, but wide and narrow widths are not available for the Rogue at this time.)

Rogue Innersoles

Our genuine sheepskin is homeostatic and naturally wicks moisture to keep feet warm and dry. Sheepskin's natural wicking action pushes away moisture to keep feet dry in the summer and cozy in the winter. The natural loft of the sheep will form to the shape of your foot and pack down over time, so the fit may feel a bit snug with new sheep innersoles for the first few days. We recommend starting with the suede innersoles and then switch to the sheep after the shoes have broken-in for a comfortable fit.

Each step feels soft and great Review by Bill
I wear them with the sheepskin inserts and with and without socks. I even wear them around the house when I would normally go barefoot just because they feel so good. Fwiw, my foot (at the big toe) is 10 1/8 inches, which would measure as a Softstar size 9U but these are 11 and fit just right. Smaller would not have worked. (Posted on 4/30/18)
Doesn't run small at all Review by Wednesday
I wish I ordered my regular size 9 instead of 10 (on most shoes I am 9.5). The size 10 is way too large! They really do feel super comfortable. Too bad I have to send them back, pay for exchange and wait.... But I do want them! (Posted on 4/10/18)
a bit big, but so comfortable and light! Review by Claudia Bea
I could copy and paste the review from "Astronaut", but want to give 5 stars even if the recommended one size up from the normal one is a bit big for me. Maybe because my ankle is very small? - All the same I love to wear them (of course, only with the thick winter insole so let them fit better). They are extremely light and warm, look exactly like on the photos and - even if I had to wait for almost two months and was forced to pay 60 € to get them out of the italian customs!! - in the end I'm happy to have them! Thank you, Elves, for your friendly help!
P.S. waiting for you to open a shop in Europe to evitate the problems with the expensive customs1!!... ;-) (Posted on 12/11/17)
too large Review by Tami
These are potentially great shoes, just like any other Softstar shoes. I've always been more than happy with Softstar, Ive been a customer for years, and their's are the only shoes I own. However, there shoes were disappointing. I followed the advice on the website to order one size up and I'm not sure it was not a good advice. The sides and back are just too big, loose and soft, my foot shifts in there and ends up diagonally resting on the sides instead of on the sole. I wish I ordered my size instead - it may have made the difference between a pair of shoes that is never worn to one that is worn daily. I can't return them any more either. Next time, I'll buy Rouge in my regular size and I hope it will be just right. (Posted on 10/26/17)

Thanks elves, nice craftsmanship, look like my grandpappy's slippers and that's how I use them, feel like an old friend (Posted on 10/10/17)
A great shoe! Review by Adam
I have had these shoes for about a month. When I first tried them on I thought, "like butta." They are very comfortable and have a relaxed vibe. The leather has a look of nice things so I think they can work when the occasion calls for more formal attire, but I don't dress like that often and they look great with a pair of jeans.

The Rambler is a warm shoe. I took out the insert and haven't used it with the sheepskin, but wearing them barefoot is warm in So-cal Spring. This is not a complaint, and I think I tend to have warm feet, just a comment that my feet are toasty in these. I'm sure in colder weather with the sheepskin these will be great.

My only real complaint about these is the sole extends out from the shoe around the foot about a centimeter. This is not in itself a huge deal, but for driving, this edge can dig into the heel and make for an uncomfortable experience. I don't rate the shoe lower because of this, I don't dislike the shoe because of this, but these were never meant to be my daily shoes, so I might not be so agreeable if I were wearing them every day. My favorite barefoot/minimal shoe Review by Ken
I own and wear the Roo Moccasin, suede Rambler, and the walnut Rogue from Soft Star. I also have minimal shoes that are meat to look like "normal" shoes, as well as some minimal sneakers and sandals. The Rogues were my first Soft Star shoe, and why I bought the others. I like them all, but the Rogues, which I have worn since the fall of 2012, are still my favorite, especially for cool or cold weather (in Chicago). I wore them this morning for my 3.5 mile walk to work, in a bit of rain and with some ice and snow on the the ground. They just have a comfort that is a step (pun intended) above my next favorites. They are roomy even for my wide foot, yet stay on very comfortably, with or without socks. The ground feel is perfect for a shoe - the soles are an ideal balance between protective and flexible. I keep refreshing them with leather conditioner, and treating them for water resistance, and they are holding up amazingly well. When I need to, I will buy another pair. I'd love the Elves to make these in a version that goes over the ankle as well for snow. I also enjoy wearing the Roo and Rambler - but usually I only wear those for a brief time in the spring before switching to sandals and in the fall before switching back to the Rogues. The Rogues get me through all but the worst winter weather in comfort and warmth. Thank you Elves! (Posted on 3/17/17)
Excellent Footware Review by Lance
Looks feels like a super comfy slipper, works like a shoe. Blends well with many types of clothing. The best shoes I've ever worn. (Posted on 1/18/17)
incredibly comfortable and versatile Review by Joseph
These are very comfortable shoes for work and anything. I took out the lining and wear them like that for running and work. I actually prefer these for running more than the moc3 runamoc that I also own. I originally bought the moc3 for running and the rogue for work. But after a couple months I switched their purposes.

Neither of these shoes have laces and I sometimes wish i could have them more firm on my feet which laces would accomplish.

I put these shoes through a lot of punishment. I run in them, shovel dirt and garden in them, work in them. The laces at the toe are starting to wear out. Also the vibram trail soles have worn smooth under the balls of my feet. But other than that, they look invincible. Very fine craftsmanship. I've owned them for about seven months at this point.

Highly, highly recommend this shoe. (Posted on 8/5/16)
The best Review by Charles
I work in a factory so far for over 6 years the last two years I have worn these shoes and I can say they are better than any boots I have ever worn. I wear these everywhere everyday I can say they hold up to the miles I put on them in a work day. Thanks so much for these shoes. (Posted on 7/25/16)
Feels like slippers all day Review by GNora
These are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. I keep thinking I have slippers on. I bought them for walking on the beach and light hiking so I got the aged walnut. Now I want a pair in black for every day work and town. Best shoes ever. (Posted on 4/27/16)
Not just for men... Review by Connie
I absolutely love these shoes. I was hesitant because they are described as men's shoes. But just like there are workbooks for men, there are also workbooks for ladies. This is the same kind of thing. They look great and feel even better. In the shoe world, I wear an 8 1/2 wide. Even though these don't come in a wide, they fit great. I wear a thin sock with the sheepskin insoles and they fit great. I really don't feel like I have a shoe on, they are that comfortable.

Note from the Elves: Thanks Connie! All of our styles are designed with function and comfort in mind, not gender :-). We are aware that many of our reviewers consider this to be a men's shoe, but we try never to put our shoes in boxes, both literally and figuratively :-). (Posted on 4/3/16)
Fit Review by baloo2
Great design but size way too small would order a 14 but they don't make anything bigger than 13 which is actually a 12. Hoped mine would stretch over time but I still can't wear after a year (Posted on 2/3/16)
very comfortable! Review by Mark
I love these shoes. Very comfortable! And, thank you Soft Star for such great customer service, as always! (Posted on 1/28/16)
Amazingly comfortable shoes..... Review by BentleyJazzie
I've owned 4-5 pairs of different Soft Star shoes. Everything from the Moc3 to Grippy Roos to Black Ramblers to these. And the Adult Rogues are BY FAR the most comfortable Soft Star shoes I've worn, to date. I love these shoes, and hope I get years of use out of them. And when it comes time to buy another pair, I won't hesitate. Soft Star shoes are just about the only shoes I ever wear nowadays. And the Adult Rogues are my favorite so far..... (Posted on 1/5/16)
Too large! Review by Astronaut
I normally wear a size 11 (men) in Soft Star shoes. I ordered a size up, as suggested for the Rogue, but they are too big. Unfortunately, I have worn them outside and cannot return them. However, they are supremely comfortable. (Posted on 11/2/15)
Insanely comfortable Review by Michelle
Yep, after wearing them daily for the last month I can safely say that these are the most insanely comfortable shoes I've ever worn---and for a longtime Soft Star Shoes customer, that's saying a lot. Similar to the reviewer "Another Ken," I've hesitated when going out the front door because it felt like I'd forgotten to put my shoes on :)
If you're a purist, you may not like the somewhat thicker sole, but I find that slightest hint of give (I wouldn't call it cushioning) to be an improvement for me when spending all my time on pavement rather than on dirt trails. The neoprene-like uppers make slipping them on and off so easy that they could easily double as bedroom slippers. As for fit, I'm glad I ordered a size up from my usual 5U. Despite having plenty of wiggle room, the Rogues mold well to my foot---no slipping around inside the shoe, or having the heel lift off up the insole. Oh, and the Rogues are relatively unobtrusive for casual least they haven't elicited any attention from family and acquaintances, unlike my Ramblers and Mocs. Though I've never paid this much for a pair of shoes, I immediately ordered another pair in black (which happen to be a bit snugger and not quite as heavenly, but the shoes are handcrafted, after all, and that's perfectly okay). Now that I have both pairs, I doubt I'll be wearing my other shoes nearly as much. Thanks again, Elves! (Posted on 8/19/15)
The most comfortable shoes I had ever worn! Review by Yotam
I love these shoes!
I usually need to go through a dozen stores before I find shoes that feel comfortable. No need for doing that any more! I love my soft star shoes. I never thought any show can be that comfy and cozy and look good as well.
highly recommend! Feeling supported, protected and connected with the earth is an amazing experience. Thank you. (Posted on 6/1/15)
My husband's and son's favorite shoes Review by Becky L
After some convincing (on my husband's part, not my son's, since he already loves Soft Stars), I managed to talk my husband into a pair of Rogues. He had been looking for a pair of shoes that he could wear around the house that could also deal with outdoor conditions. He had never worn "barefoot" style shoes and was hesitant to try these because he normally wears an orthotic insole in his other shoes. After a few months of wear, he still loves these and raves about them every day. Really! He's even trying them out on some of our walks around the neighborhood and is contemplating wearing them to work. As for my son, we splurged on a black pair of Rogues for some formal dress occasions over the past couple of months and he wears them around daily because they're so comfortable. He resists wearing them on muddy days, because he doesn't want to "mess them up" when running around at recess. Try these...they're worth the price and they probably will only come off your feet when sleeping! (Posted on 2/19/15)
Fabulous, and no smell when worn barefoot Review by MommyCez
I have been wearing these shoes for months now, and they are fabulous. They are wide enough for my feet and perfectly flat; it's like walking barefoot, only with sole protection and warmth in the winter. The most amazing part about them to me is that although I wear them constantly without socks (with the sheepskin insoles), they do not smell at all. My typically sweaty feet hardly perspire. I love these shoes!! (Posted on 1/6/15)
Great Shoe Review by Joe
I've had these for over a year and a half now, wearing them 3 or 4 days a week. These are my go to shoe for wearing with jeans - they look and feel awesome. Thanks Soft Star (Posted on 12/15/14)
Wow! Review by Co_Drummer
These are so much better than I thought they could be. Softstar really found an incredible combination here. Both the suede and sheep skin insole are great. The shoes are comfortable, have great ground feel but also feel light. Not overly warm yet keep feet toasty and dry in winter weather. Just a really awesome shoe! (Posted on 12/15/14)
Oh so wonderful! Review by Princess Elf
I am a 49 year old woman who lives in Manhattan. The sidewalks can give even the healthiest feet a pounding, and constantly climbing up and down subway stairs can be torture.
I searched hard for a pair of unanimously well-reviewed comfortable shoes, and finally decided to take a chance on the Adult Rogues in Walnut (which look exactly as they do online with regards to color).
I received the shoes pretty quickly, put them on, and have not wanted to take them off since. These are, hands down, THE most comfortable shoes I've ever had on my feet. Just for your own reference, I take a size 8 1/2 shoe and my foot is pretty narrow (I was afraid these shoes might be very wide for me). I e-mailed the "elf" and told her that my foot measured 10 1/2" and was pretty narrow. She assured me that the 8U--which would be a size 9 Womens---would fit well. And boy, does it! I cannot describe the comfort. I was also concerned that since the sole was so flexible and fairly thin, that the support might not be great (I have a pair of Minnetonka moccasins and can not only feel the ground, but also the rubber underside of the shoe (not comfortable for any long distance). This is not the case with the Rogues. The sole is a very flexible, but very large footbed (very perfect---not at all "clown shoe-like"). It is both cushy and supportive. I even tricked mine out with a pair of Dr. Scholl's
gel-pads for extra dreaminess. Just phenomenal. (Posted on 6/11/14)
these are THE SHIZZLE Review by mud
These are AMAZINg shoes!!!! Soft Star Elves, you guys hit it outta the park with these babies. Previously had ramblers, and these are just way more awesome. I don't think the description does them justice. Full neoprene lining is super comfy and makes for a more secure fit with out feeling claustrophobic like a real shoe. Slightly thicker sole is nice too, I do a lot of walking on rocky stuff and I appreciate the extra padding, whilst still being as flexible as the thinner sole. Can't wait for COLORS!!!! Favorites! Review by Another Ken
These are my favorite Soft Star shoes so far. I have an all smooth black and light brown RunAmocs as well. I've worn the Adult Rogue for 5 months every day (except when the snow got over 2 inches here in Montana). I wear them to work, traveling, at home as evening slippers. Very durable and style more normal for casual work environment. I have a standing desk, and stand all day in them. A bit strange at first outdoors, because they are so comfortable it felt like I was wearing my bedroom slippers outside. Wonderful for travel. Please make them in all black, I'd buy another pair immediately. My feet are different sizes, so custom sizing would also be a plus.

Note from Soft Star: Thanks Ken - we will be introducing a black Rogue this fall! Also, please check out our custom sizing page for guidelines - if you have one size a full size different than the other, we can help with this! (Posted on 4/28/13)
Not quite minimal Review by Scott
I have been wearing these shoes for one month. After wearing through my pair of ramblers I thought that the Rogue would suit me perfectly. Unfortunately, the rogues are much less comfortable then the ramblers. The presence of a thicker stitch and the lining make it so there is much less room in the Rogues for my toes to spread and for my feet to feel the full range of motion even though the sole is cut the exact same as the Rambler's. Also, the thicker sole makes for much less flexibility from the bottom. The shoes have become more comfortable over the past month, stretching a little. I do not think the rogues will give people the barefoot feeling that is achieved with other Soft Star shoes that are less expensive. (Posted on 1/22/13)
Warm and cozy Review by Scott
These are some super comfy shoes. They are so very soft, and when I walk it's like a little foot rub. They have excellent ground feel, and I can tell they give my feet a good work out. They also can pass as shoes in a more casual work environment. The construction quality is top notch. Although, my "Soft Star" tag came out on its own the first day, which is a tad disconcerting. Hopefully, this isn't a reflection of the overall durability of these shoes. (Posted on 12/26/12)
Super Comy Review by Scott
These are super comfortable, and sorta look like boots when I wear jeans. I am really impressed. They far exceed my expectations. (Posted on 12/22/12)
Fantastic! Review by Ken
Just got these - can't where them enough. So comfortable. Look great with jeans. I was a bit concerned about the neoprene-ish lining before I received them, but they are ridiculously comfortable. I've worn them without socks, with light and heavy socks - works all the way around. Please make 'em in black! (Posted on 12/18/12)

Find Your Size!

You can measure your feet at home using a book, a ruler and a wall. You can then see where the measurement fits on our charts below to find the recommended Softstar shoe size.

Note: we no longer recommend tracing your feet because it usually gives a larger measurement than the method described below. Our sizing charts work in accordance with the following method.

To measure your feet:

  1. 1. Remove shoes and socks and place your bare foot so that the heel is barely touching a wall.
  2. 2. Place a book in on the floor, parallel to the wall, so that it is barely touching the front of the longest toe.
  3. 3. Step away carefully and measure the distance from the book to the wall.
  4. 4. Scroll down and look for this measurement on the sizing charts below to find the recommended shoe size.

Once you find your length measurement, you can use table below to best find your corresponding size.

Wide/Narrow: Trouble deciding your width? Our best recommendation is to order a wide or narrow only if you have found you need those custom widths in other brands for your feet to be comfortable. If you have never found you needed wide or narrow shoes before then we suggest sticking with our regular width.

Style notes:

If you find yourself between two shoe sizes, we recommend ordering the larger size. This is especially true of our adult Phoenix Boots and Rogue casual shoes, which run a bit small.

Printable Stand-On Size Guides

We recommend using the measuring method shown above for the most accurate sizing, but if you'd like a simpler method then you may want to try our printable size guide. Just print the guide below and follow the instructions on the page.

Note: before you print the guide, make sure your printer settings will not shrink or scale the page. Uncheck any boxes labeled "Fit to Printable Area" and/or set scaling options to "None."

Care Tips for Full Grain (smooth) Leather Shoes

Softstar Shoes are made from eco-friendly leathers tanned in the USA. Leather is a natural product and some variation in texture and hide markings is to be expected. Because we use leather colored with non-toxic food grade dyes, there will likely be some initial color transfer to your socks or skin if your shoes become damp. This will decrease with use, but we don't recommend wearing your new Softstars with your favorite white socks the first time you take them for a spin.

If your shoes are a little snug at first in the toe box area, you can gently stretch them by stuffing the toe box with a dry cloth. Push the cloth tightly into the front of the shoe and let sit stuffed overnight to stretch. Do not use a damp cloth as the water can stain the leather or innersole of some leather types, rendering it non-returnable.

Most full grain leather we use is naturally water resistant, but our special vegetable-tanned leather (available only by custom selection on some of our design-your-own shoes) is a "naked" leather and will stain from water alone. You can clean shoes as needed with water dampened cloth and let air dry, but please note if you do this on vegetable-tanned leather then you will need to wet/stain the entire shoe to avoid water marks. Condition the leather as often as desired with any quality leather dressing, but be careful to keep it away from the edges of your rubber soles. Do not use mink oil on your shoes, as it can degrade the adhesion on bonded soles and cause the sole to separate from your shoe over time. We highly recommend Bee Natural Amore for general conditioning or Rain & Snow or Nikwax Full Grain Waterproofing on smooth leather for enhanced water resistance. The color on shiny metallic shoes will eventually patina with use into an antique wear look, which can be accelerated with repeated use to water and high wear (e.g. scuffing toes).

We do not recommend frequent washing of any leather product as it strips the leather of it's natural oils and tends to dry stiffer. For all of our leathers (except vegetable-tanned) you can clean by hand with a damp cloth, or if needed you can hand wash your leather shoes using a gentle shampoo and cool water. Let them air dry. Do not attempt to dry your shoes by exposing them to high heat, such as a clothes dryer, a hair dryer or by leaving them on a radiator or next to a fire. Doing so may damage leather or rubber soles.

We are often asked if our shoes can be washed in a washing machine. While not recommended as a normal course of action, when in dire straits the Elves have been known to toss a pair of shoes in the machine and generally have had good results. Just don't mix them with any other item because of color bleeding. Shoes with sheepskin can take 3-4 days to air dry if fully submerged in water, but you can speed up the drying by stuffing with old newspapers and replacing the paper twice a day.
