Olympic Shoes for Missy Franklin

Everyone in our shop had a lot of fun following the Olympics, especially when we heard about athletes competing barefoot or wearing minimalist shoes. It was a little sad to see the games end, but we’re giving one last hurrah to Olympic fever.

Elf Tricia recently heard an interview with Missy Franklin that caught her attention. The American swimmer and four-time gold medalist said she had difficulty finding shoes big enough to fit her size 13 feet. We went to work right away!

The result was a women’s size 13 Merry Jane featuring shiny sapphire leather with a red and white flower applique (Team USA colors, naturally). We shipped the shoes to her last week with the hope that she’ll find them to be a fun surprise and a good fit.

On a side note, since it is rare for us to make a women’s 13 shoe we thought it worthwhile to test the Merry Janes on real feet before shipping them. It turned out Elf Martin was the only person in the shop who wears the same size as Missy. He considered it an honor:
