We recommend breaking-in your shoes before using these Sheepskin PLUS removable insoles. The natural loft of the sheep will form to the shape of your foot and pack down over time, so the fit may feel a bit snug the first few days. They will loosen up over time.

All of our PLUS insoles can be easily trimmed to fit various shoes. The following shapes work best in these Softstar styles:

    They feel luxurious and are cut accurately fit my hawthorn chukkas. At the moment my shoes aren't broken in well enough for them, I will probably have to stuff the toes to stretch them a bit before next winter. Also standing on such deep sheepskin makes my feet slip around inside the shoe. I expect this will get better with wear.

    I use the Primal shaped ones in my Zen Moccasins - fit perfectly and very cozy for my toes! There is a strip of tape on the bottom of the insole that attaches it to the moccasin, which is a big improvement over having them slip around as they did for me in the past.

    I love using these for all my shoes. I got the standard width for my vivo gobis and fulhams and the primal shape for other shoes like vivo ababa that have a wider splay. I like to remove the foam layer for a more flexible insert and it works well. Happy to support a small US based company instead of Amazon.

    My merry janes had stretched to a floppy stage, and with cold weather coming I ordered the sheepskins. Perfect. So comfy for fall. Softstars have been a blessing to me. before I would change shoes repeatedly every day, when I come home, when I left, went outside, came inside. Never comfortable for long. Since I have gone zero drop and flexible and with this wonderful soft and smooth leather I can wear my shoes as long as I need to and hardly ever even think about them. Thank you for this product.

    I recently ordered the sheepskin insoles to use with my Switchback hiking boots. The elves were very helpful in recommending what size and shape to order. My boots are wide and the wide regular shape (not primal) work perfectly in the boots. All my softstar shoes and boots have sheep skin insoles and I love the way they mold to my foot and feel so comfortable. I highly recommend them!

    Great for rejuvenating old pair of slippers

    This is my second time to order the sheepskin insoles, to use inside of old pair of boiled wool slippers that had no padding. The first insoles lasted for quite a few years before I finally wore them down into some bald spots. The new insoles are a natural color with brownish areas, which was a surprise, and kind of looks "dirty" because of it. They are still really great though, and I am happy that they are really natural sheepskin. Very cozy, but comfortable to wear even in warmer weather.

    I've been wearing my Sawyers for a few months now and they've stretched out to accomodate these insoles just in time for cold weather. All I can say is wow. I never wear shoes in the house but have been wearing these for the last half hour since I received them because they're so amazing. Makes me seriously consider the need for a pair of slippers with sheepskin insoles, even though I've never been a slipper person. The one thing of note, which may be an issue with the shoe styles that ride lower on the ankle, is that they really lift my heels up. I imagine the wool will compress over time, but as is, the Sawyers feel a little awkward in this area...definitely not enough to not wear them, but it is a different feeling.

    put them in the merino slippers

    I got these to put in my Primal Merry Janes, but I couldn't get my feet in without the outline of my toes being super visible in the shoes b/c of how tight it was. Instead, I put them in my Softstar merino moccasins and put the moccasin insoles into my Merry Janes; this worked perfectly. They feel really nice under your feet and I have to wear my slippers a lot of hours straight before my feel start getting a little sweaty with these.

    I hesitated to put these into my Moc3 daily wear shoes because I thought it'd be too warm in the summer. Good news! Its not hotter at all! They are even more comfortable than the original innersoles, acting like a drying agent as well as a super soft cushion. I will definitely enjoy replacing these with a fresh pair of innersoles and feeling footwear like new again! Also unlike the original Innersoles, these don't slip out. The originals trapped the heat and the glue eventually let up and the whole sole slipped out. Which is why I put in sheepskin. Love it! Sheepskin for all seasons!

    I put a pair of these in my PRIMAL RunAmocs, which I wear around the house. So amazingly soft and comfortable. I'm considering ordering several pair in case Softstar ever runs out. If you are on the fence, just get 'em you won't regret it.

    I have a 3 year old pair of Softstar slippers. I wore out the sheepskin insoles, but the slippers are fine. So I ordered the insoles and they are fabulous! New life for my favorite slippers!

    These work great with my Primal Sawyers and fixed the problem I was having of feeling lots of rocks. With my Primal RunAmocs, the heel of the shoe is so low that my heel slips out with these in, so I am hoping there is an adjustment that can be made to make them work with those shoes too.

    Slip if you don't tape in

    I like the warmth these insoles provide and the fact that they are removable, but they slip at the heel too much on my right foot only. This is due to the angle of my heel against ground while pressing the accelerator of my car. I haven't tried the new anti-slip ones yet, but I'm not keen on the residue that would leave in my shoe if you were to remove them.

    I put these into my Lem Boulder boots, as these are my coldest weather shoes. The inner soles fit perfectly, and they make me feel as if I am walking on clouds! And my feet are as warm as toast.

  27. Comes with a tape adhesive to stay put

    I bought this to go in my Rambler. Fits fine, very good liner. My only issue with it is it came with a tape adhesive strip attached. I hate tape adhesives. . One reviewer noted that the liner would slide out the back of his shoe. I've experienced a similar problem (not so severe as his), but instead of gluing it in or using the adhesive strip, I cut a non-skid pad liner to go under the sheepskin. It works quite well, and I am able to remove the liner when I want without leaving any kind of sticky residue on the inner sole of my shoe.

    In Michigan anytime I want a closed shoe, the ground is cold. I ordered these (and the other style) for every pair of fall/winter/spring shoes I own. I’ve replaced 2 pair after about 30 months of wear only because I wanted fluffy and soft again.

    Let me just start off by saying I bought these for my Vivo Gobi 2s. I grabbed a 12w and it fit my size 45s perfectly. Didn't even need to trim them. The insole itself is great. After getting a pair of Fireside slippers I really wanted sheepskin insoles in all my shoes and these deliver. The only negative I can think of is that they definitely do take up a bit of vertical toe room. So if your shoes are a bit tight you might find this a bit of an issue.

    I got one pair with my Adult Rogues and they help me to let them fit me better (without the thick sole the Rogues are really a bit wide for me) and one pair to put in another pair of shoes.   35. They feel nice, but they don't stay in my shoes

    I got these for my Ramblers, and as I walk, they scoot right out of my shoes...out the back (they start poking up behind my heel and if I don't fix them, they keep going up and up farther, sliding away from my toes and out). I got the size that corresponds with my Ramblers and I'm going to have to glue them down or just forget about using them anymore. :( I wanted the option to remove them! If they stayed in, they'd be great. Note from the Elves: Hi Robin - thanks for your review! Please call the elves so we can send you some special tape to put on the back... they will still be removable but stop walking out of your shoe.

    They are really nice, but the backing has black tire mix which I am allergic to, so I can't use them Note from the Elves: Thanks for the review! Please be assured the backing is a very thin EVA layer (not a tire mix) which makes the innersole slide into easily into your shoe. We understand if you do not want them and would be happy to take a return. We also have the BASIC sheepskin innersole which is just plain sheep (no backing) if you are interested.

No. These innersoles are lined with a thin layer of foam-like material at the base. This gives them a little stiffness to prevent them from curling up and helps them stay in place, but it does block grounding connectivity so they are not recommended for earthing.

Not exactly. While the fleece on our innersoles is incredibly soft, keeps feet warm and naturally wicks moisture, the fibers will lie flat under the weight of feet. So cushioning is very minimal. Our shoemaking philosophy includes the belief that cushioning in shoes is unnatural and acts as a crutch that weakens feet over time, and our sheepskin innersoles were selected to uphold this standard. We understand that not everyone shares this belief, and also that our shoes are not meant for all people. Nonetheless, we have heard from countless customers who told us they previously needed orthotics or cushioning to walk without pain, but found that after a careful transition to our minimalist shoes they could throw away their orthotics and walk pain free. Yes, our sheepskin insoles can easily be cut to fit other footwear.
Yes, our sheepskin innersoles can be used with Merry Janes. To make sure you have the right shape, be sure to select the standard innersoles for our regular Merry Janes and primal innersoles if you are wearing our Primal Merry Janes.

No, our sheepskin innersoles usually do not change the size of your shoe unless your shoes already fit fairly tight without them. We do recommend breaking-in new shoes for a couple weeks before adding the innersoles for a more comfortable fit.
