International Barefoot Running Day 2013

This Cinco de Mayo, you're encouraged to kick off your shoes and run like a child!

The Barefoot Runners Society (BRS) announced its 3rd annual International Barefoot Running Day to take place on May 5, 2013. Held on the first Sunday in May, Barefoot Running Day is a grassroots, inclusive effort to promote barefoot/minimalist running as a healthy and viable way to run.

Chapters and members of the Barefoot Runners Society are organizing workshops, races and events in their own regions with fun runs ranging from 1km to 5km. The purpose is to encourage people to enjoy running barefoot across the globe on the same day. Anyone may participate, and the BRS is extending a special invitation to those wanting to try barefoot running for the first time (although running in minimalist shoes is also welcome). Tamara Gerken, President of the BRS, made this statement:

"The BRS is excited to continue presenting the world with International Barefoot Running Day. We welcome anyone who's curious about barefoot running to join us for this free, world-uniting event."

Our local Oregon chapter has organized a meeting in downtown Portland to answer questions and concerns regarding barefoot running, to demonstrate running form and to participate in a fun run around the city's beautiful waterfront and trails. You canĀ search the other regional chapter listings to see if there are any local events in your area!
