Leather scraps are fun for crafters and kids alike. Help yourself to a bag of colorful leather scraps to make your artwork pop!
We give away our leather scraps for free at our Corvallis workshop, and if you order them here you only pay the cost of shipping ($7 per pound, no other shipping charges apply). Each bag of scraps includes approximately one pound of suede or smooth leather. To give you an idea of how much leather this includes, see the photo above with the 15" ruler. The size of the scraps vary, but most are only a couple inches in width and length. Sorry, but we cannot guarantee specific colors of scraps.
We'd also love to see photos of any projects you create with our leather and share them on our website! Please email photos to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle are common themes in the Soft Star workshop. We don't like to see anything go to waste!
Soft Star is happy to offer our leather scraps to customers for use in craft projects. Scraps are free for visitors to our shop in Corvallis, Oregon. For distant customers, we only charge enough to cover the cost of shipping. Please contact us if you are interested in larger quantities—we're happy to help!
Turning Scraps Into Art
Recently, art instructor Tonya Gainey used the scraps with 54 of her students to create some beautiful leather baskets. Several examples of her students' work are featured in the photos above.
Tonya and her students incorporated many local ingredients, including Oregon native Myrtlewood bases donated by family-owned Myrtlewood in Philomath, OR. Students sculpted the beads to top off their baskets which were then baked and hardened. You will notice the beads in a variety of decorative shapes and animals (snakes, salmon, penguins, cats, etc.) and objects of art crowning the baskets. Thanks to Tonya Gainey for her enthusiasm and dedication!
