Get Crafty with Leather Scraps!
As many of you know, we make our handcrafted shoes out of soft, supple leather in a variety of colors and patterns. The high quality leather we source for our shoes is formaldehyde-free and tanned using food grade dyes. Though we use up as much of our leather hides as possible for shoemaking, we are sometimes left with scraps of leather that are either too small or too thin or thick to make shoes out of. To reduce waste, we collect the scraps we can’t use and offer them to our customers for homemade crafts and other fun projects! We have a basket of scraps in our Philomath showroom for local customers to use, and we also offer colorful leather scrap bundles and sheepskin scraps on our website for our customers all over the world. Finding a use for these scraps is just one of our eco-friendly efforts to operate as a sustainable company. Read more about our sustainability efforts here!
Here at the workshop, we also use small scraps of leather and sheepskin to create our Playful Pancake cat toys. These cat toys are filled with catnip and come in all sorts of fun designs and colors! We donate 100% of the proceeds from these toys to Kids for Kids, an organization that combats hunger in Darfur, Sudan.
Over the years, customers have sent in photos to show us what they have created out of our leather scraps, and we thought it would be fun to share them with you, along with some of our staff projects from past Playday events at the workshop. We hope these photos spark creativity for you. Happy crafting!
