Soft Star Style Bulletin: Chukkas Are Coming!

Soft Star Style Bulletin: Chukkas Are Coming!

Here’s a sneak-peek at our long-awaited, ultra-versatile chukka, coming your way Fall of 2015!

Soft Star's upcoming ankle boot

You asked for it: a simple, minimal shoe that can take you from city streets to country trails, stylish enough to dress-up without sacrificing Soft Star’s signature, stripped-down comfort. We listened, and our Elves are on the case!

Visions of simplicity aside, designing the perfect, basic ankle boot is no easy “feet”. One of our biggest challenges was to create a toe box; we wanted to give toes space to spread and flex without using lasts while also avoiding lots of toe seams that would comprise the clean style lines we desired. Many versions later, we believe we’ve found that sweet spot:

Soft Star's upcoming boot in cordovan

We are also experimenting with some new leathers from the Chicago Tannery…we’re loving their cordovan and oil-tanned beige!

Soft Star’s newest shoe (official name to come!) is tentatively set to be released in October 2015. Be sure to stay tuned for further updates, and please let us know what you think. After all, the whole point of our hard work is to create something you’ll love 🙂

i really like the look of these!

It's hard to tell from these pics, but does the big toe sea curve in too much? It looks like it may be a narrow toe box, which would rule them out for me.

I'm eager for these to be available. I wear Runamocs to/for work most of the time, when I can. But New England weather sometimes makes that impossible -- too cold or too wet. These nameless chukkas look like exactly what I've been wishing for.

Not until October? PLEASE, no later! I'll order them ASAP.

Looking forward. It looks like my next celebration shoes. I've been buying a paid of minimal shoes for every 1,000 miles I run barefooted. That's what I do with the money I save from not buying running shoes!

These look amazing!!! I've been looking for a barefoot chukka and the ones I've tried so far don't fit well at all. I am so excited to try yours because I know they will be as comfy as your other shoes. If you made a knee high boot I'd probably never buy anywhere else...

I struggle to find shoes with enough toe space and no pressure points. If the toe box were as big as the Phoenix boot, I would definitely be able to wear this!

Wow. I'd been bugging ya'll for an oxford-ish variant so I had something a bit more 'normal' for the workplace. These would do it! Please make a version with the thin leather sole if possible; I have one pair with the leather sole, and one with the vibram, and I like the leather better.

Either way, I'm totally excited about these!

Great addition. I run a sole (haha) operation treating people with chemical sensitivities. My patients' symptoms have improved with use of your shoes with vegetable dyes and no chrome.

Most of them utilize your light-colored shoes or shoes with light-colored leather lining (grey or white), report increased symptoms from the darker colors, both due to skin contact and stronger scent.

A large percentage of my patients now have expressed looking for boots.

These patients require a heel without rigidity, due to tender Achilles'. These boots might work for them if the Achilles' area is softer and seamless (some patients report pain with the Ballerine) and if the darker boots have option for lighter-colored lining (grey or white) or if there are lighter color options to select (pale tan, pale pink, pale purple, etc.).

Would be an amazing addition to have an earthing shoe for hiking, stylish enough to wear in the city. Leather sole would make this the perfect shoe!

They look great! I'm really hoping that even if it is only a custom option that they will be available with a leather sole. It seems that the design may need some modification for that, but I know myself and the other leather sole lovers would think it is well worth a few extra dollars for how comfortable the leather soles are.

Hi Chris K.! Glad you like the general look of the Hawthorne. While the sole may appear to be similar in thickness to other chukka-style shoes, it's actually an ultra-light, super-flexible, low-density Vibram Geo sole with EXCELLENT ground feel! We've been using this same soling on other minimal styles, such as the Phoenix Boot and Portlander, for years and have found it to be extremely popular with our barefoot-loving customers. You might have to feel it to believe it, so don't knock it 'til you try it ;)
