Barefoot Season at Mothering.com

Mothering.com recently published an article Trish wrote called "Barefoot Season". It is a great piece on the benefits of going barefoot, at any age! To read the whole article click here to go to the Mothering Magazine website.

When going barefoot is not an option, the article lists important features to look for in your children's footwear. As a savvy Soft Star shopper, you already know all this! But as a quick reminder, when buying shoes for growing little feet be sure to look for:

  • Soft, flexible, soles that bend easily in the middle when pushing the toe towards the heel. Many soles only bend in the toe; make sure they bend where the foot naturally arches.
  • Shoes with no arch support, to simulate barefoot conditions.
  • Ample room for toes: true children's shoes are much wider in the toe area than adult shoes—it should be loose around the toes.
  • Soft, flexible uppers that breathe. Uppers made of natural, absorbing cloth or leather are preferable to synthetic material.
