We know that nothing beats a moccasin for barefoot comfort…after all, who doesn’t want to be constantly enveloped in buttery leather and fluffy sheepskin? Unfortunately, the gentle, peaceful moccasin has some natural enemies: wet weather, jagged terrain…the abrasive looks from coworkers who wonder why you’re wearing your “slippers” to the office. So which do you choose: comfort, or resilience?
Trick question—no choice necessary! We’ve designed the Rambler to provide both durable soling AND the cozy fit of your favorite moccasins. This shoe features a flexible, stitched-on Vibram GEO sole that resists water, debris, and sidelong glances. Elastic concealed in the ankle seam secures the shoe to your foot while enabling you to slip it on and off with ease. Ramble on, comfort-lovers, ramble on!
- Flexible 8mm GEO Vibram rubber sole for durable outdoor use

Hubby adores these shoes!!! Review by Norman
I purchased these shoes for my husband for Christmas. He has very wide feet, and in recent years we have tried hard to find shoes to actually fit him, instead of just making do with ill-fitting choices. He currently works at home, so I decided to give the Rambler with Vibram sole a try, thinking they would be perfect for indoor comfort and hold up to his occasional foray outdoors. Well, he absolutely loves them! He hasn't stopped raving about them since the day he unwrapped them. He wears them whenever he possibly can. He is sold, and I am sure he will be happy to purchase another pair whenever these wear out. (Posted on 1/18/17)
very flexible soles Review by Skyla
I bought these to wear while walking the dog. They don't work well for that as I end up with rocks and dirt inside the shoe. They work well on sidewalks without the dog. The sole is almost as flexible as the leather soles and no where near as stiff as the trail or street soles. It is perfect to wear when the ground it is a bit damp and to wear indoors. Comfortable and quick Review by Brendan
I love how easy to put on and take off these shoes are. I had trouble with the innersole sliding back in the shoe, but the Elves sent me two new pairs with sticky adhesive on the back. Problem solved! (Posted on 11/11/16)
Awsomest Shoes I Have Had In A Looong Time! Review by CharleyGnarlyP290
I now own three pairs of SoftStars... all three different styles... and I will be getting more. EXtremely comfortable shoes, well made, and the customer service is stellar!
My family all have some now, they were so impressed. (Posted on 10/10/16)
Love these (non)shoes! Review by toucansam
These are my fourth pair of Soft Star shoes, and as usual, I am absolutely delighted. It doesn't seem to matter what style I buy, they are all so comfortable! However, even better than the shoes is the level of customer care the elves bring to the deal. These shoes were purchased on sale, and before shipping them, Elf Tricia called me to make sure I knew what I was ordering. It seemed as though the picture/description was not clear. I was told these had laces, which were not in the picture or description, and listed erroneously. I was offered guaranteed return if I didn't up liking them, even though they were on sale. Try getting that kind of service from a box store! While I probably wouldn't have chosen the laces, they are so warm and comfy I kept them, well worth what I paid. Will be anxious to see what new style I find next! (Posted on 7/5/16)
Most Comforatable Shoes Review by Sandy
I have been wearing these Ramblers for many years. They mold to fit your feet as you wear them. The toe bed adjusts to your feet and widens. Also many people will ask you about them and love the look and want to know where you got them. There are cute colors and the elves at Soft Star will help you always. I do not work there. I live in Florida and have purchased many pairs. These wonderful shoes have helped me and my feet to be comfortable. If someone tells you a mesh tennis shoe will mold to your foot none will work like these leather Ramblers better. I love these. So glad I found them many years ago. Thanks Soft Star and the Elves. amazing comfort! Review by KB
Just ordered a pair of these on clearance and they are terrific! Ugly as sin mind you, but so soft and flexible. I bought these to wear around the house so it doesn't matter how they look (love going barefoot at home but hate dirt and muck sticking to the bottoms of my feet). I MIGHT be able to get away with them at work if I wear long wide-legged pants. Up next-- deciding on a more "appropriate to wear in public" pair of Soft Stars! (Posted on 2/7/16)
Wonderful, wonderful shoes! Review by Brooke
I can't say enough wonderful things about these shoes! They fit my feet perfectly and are so comfortable. They have been a fantastic everyday indoor/outdoor shoe for me, exactly what I wanted them for. I am a stay-at-home mom, and they are perfect for everything we do: running errands, taking walks, going to the playground.
They keep my feet warm and dry. It is easy to layer socks in these if I need to.
I'm not sure how I made it so long without these. I had put off buying a pair because they seemed expensive. But they are such high quality, they are worth every penny. Plus, I am going to have these for a long time. They've already become a staple in my minimalist footwear collection. (Posted on 1/20/16)
Amazingly versatile shoe!! Review by karin
I bought a new pair of these in fall 2015 for my go-everywhere shoes (except when I need boots), and I am very happy with them. I got the new trail sole option and the sheepskin lining since I planned to wear them in many different weather conditions. They were completely comfortable and great for my everyday life at home, but then I embarked on a month of travel and realized how versatile they truly are. I wear them with sox when it's chilly and without sox when it's warm outside. They are surprisingly rain-proof and hold up fine in a small amount of snow and ice. I really don't need any other shoes for everyday wear! I get compliments and questions about them a lot, partly because of the bright colors I chose, but I think it's also because I just feel so good in them. If you are hesitating about paying extra for the trail sole or the sheepskin, I think both features are well worth the extra cost. (Posted on 1/12/16)
Near-perfection improved Review by Pete H.
I began going barefoot/minimal footwear in 2010 and bought pair of these soon after. I wore them almost constantly and only in 2016 wore through one sole (by bike commuting hundreds of miles on raet-trap pedals).
I bought a new pair, which have been improved slightly: my earlier shoes had a wider toe-box which were only barely clown-shoe shaped; the new narrower toe-box makes these shoes (in all-over chocolate color) some of the most elegant-looking shoes I have ever owned, and the leather is soft enough that the toe-box doesn't squeeze my normal-width foot.
(I've since put retro rubber-block pedals on my commuting bike) =D (Posted on 1/9/16)
Awesome! Review by Mona
I received my Ramblers and I have worn them every time I have gone out since. They are so comfortable! I love the fact that they feel like I am barefoot, a dream come true. I have had a couple of compliments about the applique! I wish I had know about Soft Star Shoes years ago but better late than never!! (Posted on 10/4/15)
Love Shoes Review by 451jude
Soft and comfy.
Only suggestion is to include 1/2 sizes.
Size 10 pinch my toes. Size 11 too loose and floppy unless worn with heavy sock.
I'm still so happy to have soft leather and wide toe box and barefoot feel. thanks, Elves. (Posted on 4/30/15)
great shoes, but more toe room wouldn't hurt Review by barefoot'n'happy
I have had these shoes for more than a year now, and they are my only town and 'non-muddy' shoes. I have very sensitive feet, I hate shoes. When I first tried these shoes, I forgot that I had them on. It took me a bit to get used to them, at first I hit my heel down quite hard and was surprised with that, as I go barefoot all the time, and I never jar my heel down then, but I was walking very differently barefooted vs shod. Now I walk the same way both ways. Another thing I really like that most people think is odd, is the fairly hard insole. The sole is just vibram 'rubber' (It's actually a bit like crocs material, but tougher) with a layer of leather over it. I was used to deeply padded shoes that I would just sink and sink and hardly feel solid ground at all. With these shoes, there is no padding (if you don't get sheepskin on the inside) and I feel the ground right away, which is very satisfying! The only complaint that I have is that the toe box is still a little narrow. It is longer at the big toe than it would need to be, and I could use that extra room for my big toe to spread out. Overall, I'm quite satisfied. These are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn so far. I'm wanting to order a pair of Roo's, I can't wait to seek how they feel! (Posted on 12/27/14)

You can still measure feet using the method below (also shown in our sizing videos). You can then scroll down and see where your measurements fall on our sizing charts to find the recommended shoe size. All you need is a book, a tape measure and a wall.
Note: we no longer recommend tracing your feet because it usually gives a larger measurement than the method described below. Our sizing charts work in accordance with the following method.
To measure your feet:
- 1. Remove shoes and socks and place the bare foot so that the heel is barely touching a wall.
- 2. Place a book in on the floor, parallel to the wall, so that it is barely touching the front of the longest toe.
- 3. Step away carefully and measure the distance from the book to the wall.
- 4. Scroll down and look for this measurement on the sizing charts below to find the recommended shoe size.
Once you find your length measurement, you can use table below to best find your corresponding size.
Wide/Narrow: Trouble deciding your width? Our best recommendation is to order a wide or narrow only if you have found you need those custom widths in other brands for your feet to be comfortable. If you have never found you needed wide or narrow shoes before then we suggest sticking with our regular width.
If you find yourself between two shoe sizes, we recommend ordering the larger size. This is especially true of our adult Phoenix Boots, Portlanders and Rogue casual shoes, which run a bit small.
