Something Wild is Afoot...
Check back here regularly for the latest updates on our new PRIMAL shoe design, to be released in fall of 2017.
Update: October 18, 2017
The wait is over... Primal RunAmocs are now available for sale on our website! For the initial release, this shoe is available in three color combinations with our 5mm trail sole. They are also currently made only in a standard width (which is still much wider in the toes than most shoes). We'll introduce more options for soles, widths and color customizations in spring of 2018.

Update: July 12, 2017
We're very close to finalizing the design for our new PRIMAL shoe! Our testers are hard at work putting prototypes through the worst abuse they can muster, and their feedback will help us identify any flaws or points of discomfort before we add the finishing touches.
Since we want this shoe to work as a healthy option for primal athletes, barefoot enthusiasts and anyone wanting to restore or maintain natural foot function, we sought the help of a few experts in the field. We're proud to say that our testers for this shoe's sole shape include podiatrist and Correct Toes inventor Dr. Ray McClanahan, biomechanist and author Katy Bowman, Birthday Shoes blogger and reviewer Justin Owings and Feet Freex founder Jessi Stensland, among others. Each of them received early prototypes and were asked to give feedback in two rounds: once for first impressions the day the shoes arrived, then again after several weeks of wear. The information we received from these foot health gurus is helping us create a shoe that will give your feet the love they deserve!
The design of the shoe has evolved quite a bit after the prototype feedback, but we are now testing what we believe to be the final pattern. Here is a sneak peek... though further tweaks may still happen:
Update: June 14, 2017
We've always been very proud of our minimal shoe designs, which feature a wide toe box and thin, flexible soles to give your feet as much freedom as possible. However, we have had a number of customers ask us for a shoe that allows for even more room in the toe box for stretching, gripping, and spreading their toes. Well. . . we heard you!
Our shoe designer elves have been hard at work creating a brand new PRIMAL sole shape that will allow even more space for your toes to spread while running, walking, or simply going about the day. This new design has taken everything you love about Softstar shoes (including flexible zero drop soles and soft, high quality leather) and taken it one step further by incorporating an extra wide toe box for those of you who want or need more wiggle room.
The first of our PRIMAL shoes, to be unveiled later this year, will be designed for athletic use. We expect it to be a favorite among primal fitness enthusiasts, but it also serves as a fantastic shoe for everyday casual wear. Whether you like to run barefoot across mountains or just need to cruise through everyday chores, we'll have you covered.

A little more info about the sole shape...
While our adult sole shape provides ample room for most toes to spread--certainly far more than conventional tapered shoes--we occasionally encounter customers who need even more space. A foot that develops naturally is widest at the toes, not the ball of the foot. For individuals who have this healthy alignment, or people trying to restore their natural foot shape with toe spacers, it can be very difficult to find comfortable shoes with enough room in the toe box. Alas, one standard sole shape just doesn't work for everybody.
Pictured below on the left is our new PRIMAL sole shape matched with a natural, healthy foot. The picture on the right (a real photo... not Photoshopped) demonstrates a foot that has been altered by the shape of conventional footwear over time. Such deformation may lead to many painful foot issues, including bunions, hammertoes, neuromas and plantar fasciitis. We believe shoes with wide toe boxes that allow toes to spread encourage proper foot strength and development, and that's why we love to create shoes that let your toes be free!
